This is the legit way threads work....

Q: How many GNers does it take to change a lightbulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed.
14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently.
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs.
6 to argue over whether it's 'lightbulb' or 'light bulb.'
Another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid.
2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is 'lamp.'
15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry and that 'light bulb' is perfectly correct.
19 to post that this page is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a light bulb page.
11 to defend the posting to this page saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant here.
36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and which brands are faulty.
5 People to post pics of their own light bulbs.
15 people to complain about other people being judgemental for the way in which they change their light bulbs.
7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs.
4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's.
5 to post to the page that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy.
4 to say "Didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"
13 to say "Do a search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs."
1 to bring politics into the discussion by adding that (insert politician of choice) isn't the brightest.
4 more to get into personal attacks over their political views.
5 people to get sidetracked on a discussion about bacon and coffee and how the only reason we need light bulbs is that we can see them to cook them.
1 admin to ban the light bulb posters for inserting political discussion and close the thread.
6 to complain I have cut and pasted a lengthy tome.
702 to mention that I posted this once before.
It’s still funny though lol x

lets me use my GN name as often as I do to the younger members of the family!
Of course! Go for it! Someone, (or should that be somebody?); who cares?, has just posted that light bulbs evolve, to globes I suppose . smile
My 2 'kids' are 61 and 59, so I don't dare to say "when I was your age"! If only! It's all relative, I guess.
They are both still in the workforce and also now entitled to their Senior's Card, which gives me no end of amusement when we dine out and the waitress presents them with the Senior's Special menu without even asking; I always use it of course.! grin
Now I'm beginning to sound like a mini Methuselah and I can guess what the Doomsayers will be saying about that.! sad

Rufus I'm 66, which I think lets me use my GN name as often as I do to the younger members of the family!

It seems a bit much for you to have to stand on your head while you plant your bulbs, but I'm sure that is anyone can, you will probably manage it. Mind you, I don't think you would really want to do it in August where you are... smile

Rufus2 Mon 20-Aug-18 10:36:18

you will have confused them
Wheniwasyourage; Now who's confused? grin
You should be saying I'm the one to be doing headstands whilst planting them the right way up, except that I have great difficulty standing the right way up myself. sad
Btw; Your nickname intrigues me! I'm 91 years young. What does that make you? You don't have to answer! grin OoRoo

@Wheniwasyourage
Language is always evolving, bit like light bulbs!

I do wish we had a like button.

The OP made me chuckle as did the replies. Thank you all for the laughs.

Wheniwasyourage Sun 19-Aug-18 14:53:16

Can I please be the poster who says that the OP should brighten up her grammar (with a functioning light bulb, naturally)? I think it should be "Think we may…" or "Thought we might…" Now it's somebody's turn to say that language is always evolving.

Rufus, if you bury the globes in the southern hemisphere, surely they will just grow deeper, and you will have confused them. Oh no, not if you plant them upside down, of course - duh!!

glammanana Sun 19-Aug-18 11:11:32

Very funny post KateyKrunch grin

pollyperkins Sun 19-Aug-18 11:03:39

AIBU to refuse to let guests use the lightbulb

Rufus2 Sun 19-Aug-18 09:16:42

Rufus2, globes are those map balls on stands. Will they really sprout flowers if we bury them?
Dunno! Depends on what fertiliser you use, but try it and see. Use the Earth globe stress relief variety, but keep one back for use if nothing shows. smile
I suspect they'd fare better in the Southern "emisphere"! grin

“My DIL and I have had a row about lightbulbs”

Jalima1108 Sat 18-Aug-18 21:00:14

We have one that lights up, the DGC like it - I wonder which bulb it takes?

Needs a goblet but I can’t find one so. Would that be because you can't find it in the dark? Turn the light on!

GillT57 Sat 18-Aug-18 17:35:19

Very illuminating!

PamelaJ1 Sat 18-Aug-18 17:24:29

Best thread on GN at the moment. Needs a goblet but I can’t find one so...?

Or the ones who posted to say that lightbulbs can’t hold a candle to, er, candles?

Jalima1108 Sat 18-Aug-18 14:37:59

Perhaps they can answer the questions on Only Connect
