Online shopping

I have used Waitrose for years at home in the South East and they were always brilliant and the only one with free delivery (although you have to spend £60). However here in the North West I would not recommend them as they seem to do all their deliveries from the Chester store and usually about 20% of the items are substituted, often with completely inappropriate items. I know someone who had a few substitution problems with Tesco but apart from that they were happy with them.

I have ordered other goods online but not food since then. Oh - and a family member didn't get his Christmas food delivery on Christmas Eve (adverse weather conditions, apparently!) and had to drive 80 miles return to fetch it himself. He got through so why couldn't the delivery vans?

oops just realised you meant groceries. I get mine delivered from Asda. It's so convenient and saves a lot of time and energy. They do sometimes miss something off the list but you can just go back online and get a refund right away. Same if you're not happy with the quality.

We have done this MissA - including a large order for wine for a wedding.
They exchanged so much, including the wine, that I became very annoyed indeed.
I do like to see what I'm buying.

I ve used online deliveries in the past but aren’t overjoyed at some of the ‘alternatives’ they send if they re out of something I m also not sure you get the best sell by dates I have used tesco Iceland and Asda nothing to choose between them I wouldn’t go back to it unless I have to but if I was ill or incapacitated then I would and say thank you
Ocado don’t deliver in my area

Ocado are brilliant only ever buy odd things I've run out of in a supermarket, now. . Just set up an account with their app , register your address and the card you want to pay with. After one shop you will have a favourites list which you can use as a memory aid and it will tell you offers on your usual buys too. Delivered to your door at a convenient time, what's not to like, I love it! Also buy on line regularly with AmaZon , Boden, and M&S .

I use them all of the time, I’ve tried them all, we live a fair way from the shops and apart from Asda they all now have one hour slots, the only problem is if they can’t deliver an item, so I usually have to schlep to the shop anyway which is a b#*@@#r.
I overspend if I go to the supermarkets myself.
Drivers are friendly and helpful and will take the goods straight into your kitchen for you if you want.

I did use them when I'd had a hip replacement and was very satisfied. Mind you, that was 13 years ago.

My daughter did, and found them pretty good.

Yes, it was a pain in the workplace, because we had to check every item, since we were buying on behalf of the residents.
It would have been quicker to go to the shop!

I've only used on-line food deliveries when I've been out of action, but with Waitrose almost my corner shop and Aldi conveniently close, there's not much point in on-line shopping. For everything else it's another matter. I'm on first name terms with the Hermes courier.

That can be a problem MissAdventure But I’ve found in the past few months at least, that these items are highlighted at the top of your invoice and you’re given the option to send them back with driver. If you don’t, or if you don’t notice the short date it’s very easy to get a refund online, there’s actually an option for too short a date. Annoying that your food is out of date, but it is an improvement.

I have worked in a place which had an Asda shop delivered, and it was quite problematic.
They would send 12 yoghurts which all went out of date the next day!

Ocado are very good, they have enough offers to make it fairly priced but the ease and service is excellent and you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner

I’ve used Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury, Waitrose and most recently Morrison’s. I’ve found all the sites easy enough to use, if there’s a least favourite it would be Asda, seemed to take forever but others like it. Why not try your usual supermarket to begin with? Most have the option of a checking thingy to ensure they deliver to your area before you access the ordering process. Give it a go, I do one monthly big on line shop for heavy and regular items and top up weekly, seem to spend less and it’s so much easier.

I've seen Ocado vans around here.
Are they reasonably priced?

Oh I can’t shop in Aldi. I get too excited by all the bargains and end up spending twice what I usually would, with piles of stuff I can’t fit in my cupboards!

Dora my daughter and I found that shopping at Aldis tended to make us overstock, with everything having a different sell by date.
It didn't work out quite as reasonable as we thought!

I sometimes get an online delivery from Waitrose if I need a lot of things, say if the family are coming, but otherwise I like to go to the shop as it's only a mile away, I can get a free coffee and probably bump into someone I know.
The website is quite easy to negotiate, but you have to watch out how things are sold - for example it's not difficult to accidentally order 1 kilo of something, instead of a single item . You can book a time slot so you know when they're coming.
I get clothes from lots of different places - John Lewis, Uniqlo, Toast, Boden. The advantage is that you can try things on with stuff you already have to see if it works, but it's not quite the same as wandering round the shops actually looking at things.
If I know I want a particular item, like a storage box from Lakeland Plastics, shopping online saves all the faff of going into town and locating the item in the shop, so it's a clear winner.

I don’t do online food shopping now, just buy things almost daily, since I haven’t got a lot of space to store things. I remember one drawback was that it’s easy to over-order, and then you are left with a lot of stuff coming up to it’s use- by date. I think the other thing I found was that you should never do an online food shop when you are hungry. Or hungover.

I do a lot of internet shopping. My GS is 6'5" tall with size 15 feet so there is not much on the High Street to fit him. I try to use places that do free returns so I can order different sizes to try.

Easy peasy, MissAdventure, I prefer Ocado myself.
