Good point Miss A - maybe 'instant messaging' which apparently will still be allowed ?

Yes, but how will they let the world know how virtuous they're being? smile

Great idea if it takes off - the really heavy users are mostly sheeplike so it probably will ?

I’m certainly not going to do it. It’s how I keep in touch with friends, family and numerous other things. It isn’t a vice.

I go 'cold turkey' every so often.I scroll & post more in school holidays as I have more free time..so Sept is good for me!

I have a mild addiction smile
Always check GN and FB first thing in the morning, after a trip to the bathroom grin (don't do Twitter etc.) and maybe 4-6 times in the day. FB is great for finding out what's going on in my area. I have the local history page and local traffuc and travel. I post very little but do comment on threads.
I don't understand the people who feel the need to walk along scrolling through their phones. Look up, there's a whole world out there !

I won't be abstaining but I know a few people who would benifit from doing so.

No thanks. I love Facebook and Instagram - I get a lot from them . Family chat and sharing of photographs, comments from old friends that I went to school with , stories from special interest groups , it's all fun and keeps the contact going. I've no intention of "disengaging" at all. Everything in moderation - no doubt some people are badly affected by social media but not me.

We've had Dry January, and Stoptober, now there is Scroll Free September. Launched by the Royal Society for Public Health and endorsed by the NHS, it is aimed at helping people to take back control of their use of social media.

The campaign asks users to stop or cut down use of all personal (not work) social media accounts on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat for the month (instant messaging apps such as WhatsApp are allowed).

And for those who will bleat say (including HQ no doubt) "What about Gransnet?" grin there are four levels of disengagement from "Cold Turkey" to "Night Owl".

Being online and constantly on their phones affecting people's lives - who'd have thought?!
