There are hundreds of threads on MN. I look at it now and again and never get involved in nasty arguments.
Posters are often very caring and helpful especially to people who post about relationship problems.

The C word usernames are a "thing" to make live slightly more difficult for mail online "journalists" who copy'n'paste their "features" straight from mumsnet

How do you spot a fake thread? I must be a bit dim as I never can??‍♀️

I've contributed to a few threads on there but I pck and choose which ones.
I agree about some user names though.

Blimey it's beyond me why people would want to make stuff up.

Also I would invest in a thread, thinking it was genuine and then the OP would either disappear or it turned out to be pure fantasy.

I follow The Archers thread on Mumsnet. Very witty and no nastiness.

I perceive the bad language to be a generational thing, the C word was pretty much verboten when I was growing up and it still carries a certain shock value, I don;t think it's a word to use casually, frankly not at all, but it's dropped into conversation, usually heated ones to describe any person that they don't like over on MN. Yes I'd find it pretty hard to type too. One or two posts I've seen have taken exception to the word but the users will usually argue their case for using it, sometimes they make a valid point or two. Still don't like it though.

Some great discussions go on on MN, and often no holds barred, anyone prone to pearl clutching ( and whoever it is who Pm'sGillybob when she throws in the odd bloody) would be advised to stay away. But, I do hate the 'c' word and really dislike the way it is sometimes incorporated into user names. So much so, that I can't bring myself to type the name of anyone with it in their user name.

I'll qualify that a little. It's a shame some of the posters feel the need to use vulgarities when putting their point across.

I agree Maggiemaybe there are some interesting discussions, I'd say the most heated ones these days are around trans gender issues, that's been a bit of a learning curve for me, had no idea what a "cis" woman was before I followed some of those threads.

It can be a bit raw over there and I hate the coarse usernames tbh, but there are some lively discussions and some very sharp, witty posters. I only joined originally for the book club, but they’ve stopped giving out free copies, and you’ve to buy your own. Please don’t get any ideas, GNHQ!

Mainly political ones and certainly that word is used to describe several politicians across the political spectrum. I'll leave it up to you to guess which ones

Not entirely on it's own Annie, but incorporated into the midst of a few other words, bad enough though It's not all bad though, I love the book sites over on MN, the bad language isn't everywhere although it crops up on certain threads.

Far more colourful than GN, you definitely shouldn't stray over there Annie Showed a couple of examples to my husband, he was simultaneously appalled and amused in equal measures. The worst expletives are sometimes incorporated in user names. Who wants a pseudonym with the "c" word in it
