You aren't alone in writing out a response then putting it in the bin. I do it too.

The other things I have been caught out on is not fully reading all the other replies before I post and because it takes me so long to type my post can just be a repetition of what others have posted.

I do that sometimes. More often I type a long reply then forget to press post and it disappears. I did that recently twice so I ended up writing it 3 times. By the 3rd time it was much shorter and no longer relevant as the discussion had moved on.
Also I find it annoying that if I'm interrupted in the middle of writing eg telephone rings or DH wants something when I come back it has vanished.

As there's no edit function on Gnet, once you have posted a message, you can't alter it or delete it - unless you ask admin to take it out. So if you aren't confident about a post, it's wise to make the decision not to post. I sometimes find myself doing just that too.

ChaosInc I do the same! I avoid certain threads altogether because I don't feel robust enough to join in! (we all know which threads I'm referring to!)

I sometimes delete a post but not because it's controversial - I just reread it and think "Oh, that's boring, so who is going to want to read it?"
I nearly deleted this one too!!

I do the same often Chaos. Part of the reason is I don't want my responses appearing on FB.

I do the same when I can't be bothered with the inevitable fallout!

Squiffy I also avoid the politics threads, as the tone of those can get quite unpleasant and I often don’t feel well enough to deal with it

I think those that don't are in a minority.
It's often cathartic to type out your feelings about something anyway with no need for anyone to read it but you.

If you use the preview button, it helps you to think if you have said things correctly, my spelling certainly needs a check, but even then I sometimes don’t see it.

Good point, lemongrove. (which is why you could find yourself called Lemongrass as my phone won't take any notice of me!)
