Don't know what I put last time, but it would be The Wonderful Man I'm married to. He's been away a lot recently and the household ticks along just the same, but he's so good to have around. 
(Yes, I know you meant an item, but I'm missing him today, and having him around certainly makes my life easier.)
Another thread we have had before ( recently) but my answer is the same 
tea, marmalade and gin.
I have lost my small kitchen knife which has a lovely fat handle so is easy to grip. I am hoping very much that it didn't find it's way into the bin which has only just been emptied meaning it has gone forever. It seems such a small thing but I use it all the time. 
It has made me think of all the fairly insignificant but very useful items which I find indispensable for an easier life. What couldn't you do without?
