Any tips you use to remember the little (or big) things?

I have just been discovered a reminder I had taped to my old vacuum cleaner to remind me to check the smoke alarm regularly. Needless to say I haven't checked it in ages not since replacing it. So now i have stuck it on my new one. I have tried reminders for other things like a hot wash for the washing machine and using a cleaner for the dishwasher but I do not remember as regulrly as i would like to. Anyone have any tips or care to share what works for them?

Lists in huge writing in the bathroom, we generally visit that more than once a day. If you have a downstairs lav. leave one there as well.

And here's something about lists that I heard on a radio programme about sleep: if you have a lot of things to do or remember, it helps you sleep if you write a list of them before bedtime. Just making a mental list isn't enough; it's the actual writing down of the items that enables you to clear your head, because then you know you don't have to remember it all until the morning, and your brain can let go.

Shopping List Pad on worktop, small diary in bag, house diary in drawer under coffee table and calendar on kitchen wall. DH does everything on his phone and we have a diary check every week. Just before the New Year I write in all birthdays, Reminders about regular payments etc. Sounds a bit over the top but one year we realised that we hadn't renewed our house contents insurance the previous year and that really put the * up us. I can also still locate stuff in my diary, quicker than DH can on his phone. smile

Only just seen this thread, but I have, not a list, but a huge notice on the door of the cupboard where I keep my tablets. It says LOCK THE DOORS! Since DH died I have occasionally forgotten to lock the doors at night and have been horrified to come down in the morning to find unlocked front and/or back doors. So now when I take my night-time tablet I check all the doors.

I have a small note book and pen beside the bed so if I suddenly think of something important I write it down. It’s no good thinking I will remember it in the morning because I won’t.

I also have one by my chair where I have my morning coffee.

I then put all my notes on my desk in my small office.
