Hair problems.

I have used N&E for years with great success the only thing is they have been changing the numbers on the dyes over the past year or so so I now have to keep the top of the empty box to keep a check on the nuber I use,at present it is 87b (I think) I must check before I buy a new couple of boxes,they are £4.29 each at Savers at the minute.

My mobile hairdresser charges a fiver for a root touch up and a fiver for a trim. A whole head colour would be a little more, but I don't have that often. She uses professional dyes and is very quick and clean! All I have to do is rinse off after half an hour. She would do that for me, but I see little point in her hanging about to do something I can easily do myself! She also runs the clippers over any male members of the household who happen to be there too! Possibly cheaper than actually buying a box dye!

I just use Superdrug own brand. On their packets they show what colour the dye will come out on different original coloured hair, including grey.

I love my natural platinum hair but when I used to dye it I always used Nice ' Easy, easy to use, gives good coverage and is kind to your hair.

I use Belle colour - In Wilko at the moment for £3.50
Like Nice and easy it does fade after a number of washes.

I have considered it Catlover, as it would be simpler and cheaper, and probably better for my hair. I asked my hairdresser how much grey I had. She said I still had a lot of dark brown especially at the back.

I have my hair just under shoulder length and don't want to cut it short. So it would take ages to grow out and would look odd I think. I hopefully asked if it would look like silver highlights, but she said no, as the grey isn't evenly distributed.

I have gone a bit lighter as I think it suits my skin better now. I'm going to stay with the dye for now.

I used to use nice and easy and had good results but got fed up with and decided to go natural. Have you ever considered it? I am a bit salt & pepper with mostly grey at the front but lots of people have complimented me on my 'new' hair, - it could be they are just trying to be nice though!!

I just wish I could buy that conditioner which comes with Nice N Easy in a larger size. It's meant to help retain the colour, and leaves my hair beautifully soft.

That's what I do too...short hair and roots don't need the full amounts.

Seaside - yes you need to mix the 2 together in equal proportions, (the colour formula and the activator) as they tell you to do when you are doing the skin test 48 hours before use. You can always try and strand test too to make sure it's the colour you want.

It's important not to use metal. I measure one or two plastic spoons of each, into a small plastic pot, mix thoroughly and apply with a hair dye tinting brush to the roots. Then seal up the containers very securely, and you can use the next time.

Home hair dye has changed so much in recent years. Now it’s hardly any more trouble than applying a good conditioner. Don’t be afraid to do it yourself. Use a colour lighter than you think you might need and follow the instructions! L’Oreal Excellence (think Helen Mirren) is my choice. 2 packs for £12 !

Hi Seacliff.If you just use a bit of the tube , don't you need to mix it with the liquid in the bottle too ?

i buy the avon ones usually £7 but often on offer buy one get 2 free,great grey coverage ,high quality just have a dry cut at my local hairdressers for £10 every 4 weeks

I use nice and easy and always brush it through with a wide plastic brush after applying to make sure it's all covered Hth

I use henna. First time I only let it work for the time stipulated on the packet, then decided that didn't make all that much difference to my hair, so tried leaving it a bit longer. Trail and error until I got a result I liked.

I use Nice n Easy at the moment. When I just want to hide new roots, I just mix a little up in a plastic dish, not the whole tube. I apply it just to the roots with a brush. Then I may brush a few strands the whole length.

This stops too much build up of colour over all my hair, and looks more natural.

I agree with post above about going a shade or two lighter than you think you need.

I was all for being like cruella, asmy dark hair is very dark still but I have very grey streaks at the front.
Around about a month to six weeks ago I went a bit boldly to boots and bought electric blue !! I rationalised that it would wash out within a few washes and if it was really awful I could sit at the sink and wash it away. However it’s a great success, and I can’t count the amount of compliments I’ve had. I say go for it .

Meant to add, it only costs me £24. I know that if I tried home dyeing we'd have to redecorate the bathroom afterwards.

For my hair dye at hairdressers I only have to sit for 30 minutes and doesn't sting or stink!

I do still get mine done at the hairdresser because I want to be a natural red which is hard to achieve at home. Before I was so grey I used Excellence. It worked very well because it covered the grey but left it a little lighter so it looked more natural.
Could I suggest that you first try a lighter colour than you expect to need? If you come out too light its easy enough to go darker next time, but not so easy to lighten your hair if it is too dark as the colour tends to "stick" in parts of your hair.
I used to mix two colours; many of the brands have the colour tube and a bottle of liquid, so you can use half of one colour and half of another, saving the rest for next time.
Nice 'n' Easy didn't work for me as the colours were a bit too solid and harsh. My hair just looked too dyed. I really prefer something which leaves my hair more "streaky" and natural looking.
As others have said, do be sure to do the patch test just in case you react to the colour.

Hi, I use the nice n easy leaves it in good condition, but the colour fades after 3 weeks, I leave it on for the recommended time, am I doing something wrong ?
