Adopting a gran/grandad

Don’t take this the wrong way but I think people would be wary of volunteering themselves to be “parents/GP’s” on an anonymous site.

Generally students don’t have much time for the older generation and it is healthy to make friends and do all the things we’ve done in the past (oh yes I remember it well!). It should be a great free time.

If you feel you would like to meet older people to forge different friendships, why not volunteer for jobs where you will meet a cross section of people. I wouldn’t actively push the need for substitute parents though as may scare people. I am guessing you didn’t have a great childhood? But you can have a fabulous adulthood and meet lots of interesting people on all levels good luck

Replicate all Bluegal has said We ve had this request before and I ve said the same thing if you get on best with older folk volunteer in a care home or day centre, you can’t make a grandparent or a parent from an anonymous stranger you can make friends though, age means nothing, so you could make friends with an older person for trips out or coffee etc if that’s what you want to do

In all fairness, the previous ones, if I remember correctly, were mums looking for "grandparents" for their children.

A truer never spoken MissA. There seems to be more loneliness now than there ever was, and across all ages too.

I sometimes feel I would like a surrogate mum.
I could look after them, and they could mother me just a little bit.
And we could have some laughs..

I had a surrogate mum for 45 years MissA and she was the most wonderful, steadfast person in my life; exactly as you describe I wish she'd been my real mum. Sadly she died very recently but I'd have been a poorer person without her in my life. I count my blessings for what we had. for you x

Its a shame we all have to be so wary these days.
