When did this become the norm?- with the spectators too. I don't remember Connors et al doing this.

I am not sure I like it.

Ooooh merlot , phew ?

merlotgran Sun 15-Jul-18 23:27:01

Aaah.. John Newcombe. [sigh]

Jangran99 Sun 15-Jul-18 20:35:47

Agassi is my all time favourite and he does such wonderful work with youngsters these days, as does Steffi.

Anniebach Sun 15-Jul-18 19:46:50

It is the same after every era, always takes time to adjust to new top seeds It has been exceptional to have had so many, Federer, Nadal, Murray , Djokovic, but there was the Borg era ? and way before there was Laver, Rosewell and Newcombe.

I’m feeling very much like you luzdoh. The reign of R.F. is probably over and there is no-one of his stature left at the moment. Hurry back Andy ? and good to see the improvement in Kyle. Hope for the future. ?

Anniebach Sun 15-Jul-18 19:21:01

Why have you given up on it luzdoh ?

luzdoh Sun 15-Jul-18 19:16:06

I never thought it could possibly happen, especially as I used to bunk off one day a year from school to go to Wimbledon, (in the 1960s) but I've given up on the tennis. I haven't watched any. I do love Roger Federer but that's about it. Tennis is finished for me.

This went in the wrong post!

After owning a detached house in Bedfordshire and a villa with business in Spain, we lost everything and had to resort to renting a flat in London near OH's job. The landlady lives downstairs, cutting off any chance of running a business from home and there's no garden. There's a tiny space next to the bins but the area never gets sunshine, so the flat has damp mould. To get some sun I had to resort to sitting on a cemetery bench twice this week so do please enjoy your gardens and no matter how uncomfortable for me, long may the heatwave continue. I used to live in Kuwait.

Virginia Wade was in Centre Court yesterday watching the women's final

kookim Sun 15-Jul-18 13:05:03

I jut wish that all of them would stop making these dreadful noises when hitting the ball. I sometimes have to turn the sound off and watch,

Aepgirl Sun 15-Jul-18 11:32:03

And why do doubles players have to touch hands with their partners after every point, whether they win it or lose it?

Camelotclub Sun 15-Jul-18 11:31:11

I think some of the older champions look better with age. Certainly Jimmy Connors, Borg and McEnroe have all matured well! Probably because they're so fit and rich and healthy. Like the women, Chris Evert and Tracy Austin have that sleek, prosperous California girl look to them. And where is Virginia Wade this year?

Anniebach Sun 15-Jul-18 10:29:21

I think the next World Cup will be held in December

MawBroon Sun 15-Jul-18 10:28:42

Have you tried the off button?

mabon1 Sun 15-Jul-18 10:25:10

Too much tennis and football on the television at the same time, I'm fed up of it all.

Anniebach Sat 14-Jul-18 22:24:26

It isn’t equality

PamelaJ1 Sat 14-Jul-18 21:52:24

Well IMO both the men’s semis were worth more than the women’s finals.
I just love it when I don’t know who is going to win, much more exciting.
Unfortunately I don’t really have any favourites (except the British players of course) so it’s not quite as nail biting as it was in the olden days!
Good luck to Jamie. ?

Jangran99 Sat 14-Jul-18 19:43:48

Men’s semifinals -158 games played
Women’s semifinals- 36 games played
Equality?

Jalima1108 Sat 14-Jul-18 19:27:48

I will always remember Goran, he had just played at Wimbledon the first time we visited Croatia (then Yugoslavia).
We decided if we got lost or into any trouble we would just say Goran Ivanisevic and give a thumbs up!

Jalima1108 Sat 14-Jul-18 19:25:27

ps if they want equality they should play five sets

Jalima1108 Sat 14-Jul-18 19:25:13

I don't know Jangran
hmm too

Jangran99 Sat 14-Jul-18 17:39:58

Remind me why the ladies matches are worth the same prize money hmm

Anniebach Sat 14-Jul-18 14:15:15

It’s OCD, remember Goran ? ?

merlotgran Sat 14-Jul-18 14:13:28

I don't know which is more annoying. Nadal's OCD or Djokovic's endless ball bouncing.

Great tennis though.
