Dry or wet,
The weather pays its debt.

We need weeks of steady rain after weeks of drought.

We're into the third week of school holidays here, and it has been fine until today, when the rain came on while I was doing an early watering for the vegetables (but not before I had carried the heavy watering cans for miles...). Must be a first for the school holidays anyway

It didn't last very long Cherrytree

Blue skies again now (but apparently will be cooler tomorrow)

The showers seem to be quite sporadic and very short lived.

My mobile at present is showing
83% humidity.
The prospect of another sticky night then?

We keep being promised rain, or at least showers. But nothing materializes. We even had a yellow weather warning last week for heavy rain. Not a thing. We see dark clouds but they just pass by. Perhaps it is because we are on the coast. No rain for about 5/6 weeks. Just a little at night would be lovely

Two days ago the forecast was for thunder storms in my bit of Norfolk. By yesterday morning this had evaporated to showers, then posssible light rain. We did actually, briefly feel a few spots of water in the air, but that was it. Apparently the rain has gone north - and south - and will miss us. Another two weeks of glorious sunshine is forecast. And it’ll get even hotter. On current Met Office form this means it’ll rain by the end of the week and get much cooler.

(The farms around here are harvesting like fury - the yield may be down a bit, but they’ll certainly save on the drying!)

BlueBelle Tue 17-Jul-18 06:37:23

We still have had NO rain here since end of May but the weather is so blooming fantastic to wake up to sun every day makes my heart sing

BlueBelle Tue 17-Jul-18 06:38:13

Bbevan are you East coast like me

BBbevan Tue 17-Jul-18 12:10:47

No Bluebelle SW Wales !

After six weeks in (dry, sunny, hot) California, DH & I flew into Manchester yesterday morning and it rained as we drove home is the taxi. Am I complaining? No!! I love the rain and I had missed it. We're so lucky in the NW because ("they say") the next major world shortage is predicted to be a shortage of water....

Blinko Tue 17-Jul-18 12:31:53

West Midlands here, wishing for 'chucking it down'. Nothing watery for weeks and weeks. Gardens like deserts.

Nandalot Tue 17-Jul-18 13:08:54

Still no rain here, but dark clouds (had to put light on) and thunder. Two miles up the road they had ten minutes heavy rain.
(Last time we had rain was when the village flooded about six weeks ago!)

We were out walking yesterday and it came over so dark and thundery I was sure we were going to get a soaking, but no. The clouds moved on and it didn’t actually rain anywhere here. The moorland streams are very low and some have dried up altogether. I have given up trying to get enough water to my garden - it will have to take its chances.

Marydoll Wed 18-Jul-18 06:46:19

It's pouring down in Glasgow. I'll swap some of your sunshine for our rain ?

Menopaws Wed 18-Jul-18 06:53:03

Nothing here just harvest dust and herds of wildebeest galloping majestically across the plain opposite my house.

Blinko Wed 18-Jul-18 07:56:51

Clouds loomed overhead yesterday, much cooler. Sadly no rain ☔.
3pm Sun came out, blue skies and temperature went up but still not as hot as last week.

According to my mobile Today's Forecast is partial cloud with a chance of a shower midday.
0.01 inch!!hmm

We are very muggy and cloudy in Mid Norfolk....no rainfall

NfkDumpling Wed 18-Jul-18 13:23:11

I just checked the Met Office and we have a yellow warning for a thunder storm on Friday afternoon. I wonder if it’ll be as heavy as the one they forecast last week which evaporated before it got here!

downtoearth Wed 18-Jul-18 14:33:50

NFK it will probably wait till I have just put the washing out having spent all morning deliberating in or out?

NfkDumpling Wed 18-Jul-18 19:08:16

I shall try washing the windows again tomorrow!

nanaK54 Fri 20-Jul-18 13:21:41

Whoop! Whoop! It is raining in my part of Kent, I never thought I would be so happy to see rain but this is the first for weeks and weeks!
I had hung my washing out before work this morning, but I don't even care about that, or the sun lounger cushions that are getting soggy!
