The Thai boys
As the other thread is entitled Good news and as a man has just died in the rescue I thought it needed updating
It s so very sad to think this man has lost his life whilst trying to save these lads
He was swimming to take them oxygen but didn’t leave himself enough for getting back he was 38 years old
I didn’t realise it’s a 5 hour swim to get to the boys ledge and then a six hour swim ( against the flow) going back
The monsoons are expected on Sunday it’s horrendous

Hope the link works

Now the 8th boy is out.

Jaycee5 Mon 09-Jul-18 12:55:29

Three have been brought out, 2 sent to the main hospital and 1 to the field hospital. They are carrying on.
It looks as if they may try to continue today.

I thought I heard that they left for hospital on stretchers too. They must be very weak and then have had to go through the ordeal of getting out, sapping what little strength they may have.

aggie Mon 09-Jul-18 11:43:56

I hope he is ok , it was said the first four walked out

Jalima1108 Mon 09-Jul-18 11:40:24

Royal Thai Navy official says Fifth boy out and left in an ambulance for the hospital

BlueBelle Mon 09-Jul-18 10:55:48

I caught the end of latest news and thought he said another stretcher had come out but not sure if I heard right. Anyone else heard that ?

Jaycee5 Mon 09-Jul-18 10:20:19

DanniRae Yes, we can only wait and hope. They said yesterday that it would be the same team as they know the way and the systems. They will be exhausted by the end but must have felt elated at the success yesterday.

Just read on BBC News that the cave rescue has began again.
My prayers are with them.

Wheniwasyourage Mon 09-Jul-18 07:36:50

Fingers crossed indeed. The poor families. So good that four are out anyway.

BlueBelle Mon 09-Jul-18 07:27:35

They are waiting for the route to be set up again it’s no easy thing they have to set the air bottles at certain places as they can’t do it on one bottle each There are rocks and obstacles that need to be moved The water is like coffee thick and muddy The boys are very fragile medically They haven’t been able to wash or toilet properly for two weeks (I didn’t even think about toileting) and had no food for nine days so probably not well at all The news this morning spoke of infections but didn’t go into details
The divers also need to rest it’s the same divers going in again I would think ( my assumption) they are the most experienced and having done it once so know the pitfalls
The latest news said it could be up to four days for the next stage
It all seemed so euphoric when the first four came out it felt that they were home and dried not feeling quite so confident now, but fingers well and truely crossed

Oh dear! I thought they would be able to get them all out in time! So happy and relieved for the few that made it out, but more worried than ever about the rest! God bless these rescuers...I hope and pray it all ends well for everyone!

Jalima1108 Sun 08-Jul-18 20:46:52

They are waiting until Monday (it could be Monday in Thailand already) as they needed to get more oxygen to the boys still in the cave.

BlueBelle Sun 08-Jul-18 20:45:06

...and all volunteers I believe

PamelaJ1 Sun 08-Jul-18 19:35:53

These rescue divers are truly amazing as is the courage of the boys.

BlueBelle Sun 08-Jul-18 16:56:58

I ve noticed the BBC report has changed to 4 now Jaycee oh poo I was elated they were half way there looks as if they can only manage four a day then Well it’s a big improvement on none so fingers crossed for the next attempt which is scheduled to start 3am our time tomorrow morning

Jaycee5 Sun 08-Jul-18 16:26:19

I watched that report but it was later corrected. The Head of the Cave Rescue Operations has put out a statement. There were 4 rescued and they are all at hospital now.
They are repeating earlier interviews when they thought it was 6 but are reporting 4.

BlueBelle Sun 08-Jul-18 15:58:59

I ve just listened to the head of the rescue team and 6 definitely out 4 have been taken to hospital
Waiting ten hours to rest the divers and to get all safety equipment prepared and possibly waiting for the best time as it’s night now then going to commence the second stage of the rescue
They are using a long rope so boys are pulling themselves along as opposed to swimming The diver has to bottles his own and the boys the boys have face masks apparently Thai
And has the second highest water deaths in the world few kids can swim Maybe the government should address that as soon as this is over
There are 90 divers involved 50 Thai and 40 from rest of the world but I would imagine it’s is only the very best that are going down The head of the British company (obviously not a diver ) said you couldn’t pay him to go in there

Jaycee5 Sun 08-Jul-18 15:34:34

Unfortunately they have now said that the Reuters report was wrong and it is 4 boys that are out.

Jaycee5 Sun 08-Jul-18 15:05:41

They've just said they need 10 hours to prepare for the next rescue. They took the weakest out first so the rest should be able to cope but it is nerve racking.

annep Sun 08-Jul-18 15:02:04

Its such an emotional time and I'm so happy for those already out and thankful for the very brave divers and everyone involved in the rescue. I do hope they all make it out safely. I have tears too for the man who gave his life and his family.

Sewell61 Sun 08-Jul-18 14:50:05

So glad they've got 6 of them out, praying for the rest of them....and everybody is safe

Pebbles77 Sun 08-Jul-18 14:41:51

and all those involved in the rescue

willa45 Sun 08-Jul-18 14:41:32

I am delighted to hear that they are being rescued successfully!! So excited... six out so far a last local report.
Perhaps some of you already know more.....Praying and holding my breath!

Jalima1108 Sun 08-Jul-18 14:12:40
