Can I ask which river Doodle? Something I've always fancied

I was out in the garden late yesterday evening looking for the cat, and I’m sure two bats swooped overhead! Can’t think what else could have been flying round at that time. Then I found some hedgehog poo on my step this morning! (Fancy getting excited about poo?!)

Nice sit by the river this evening watching a pair of swans gliding slowly by with 2 signets. So peaceful ?

I have yellow freesias in a vase beside me giving off a heavenly scent right now kathyd.

humptydumpty I just remarked to a friend the other day that I'd bought a bunch of Sweet Williams for the scent and thought that once they were in a warm room they would scent it out. No such luck - no fragrance at all. My lilies, on the other hand, can be smelled from metres away.
Patriciageegee - the yellow freesias are the ones with the strongest perfume.

Ah we have foxes visiting us as always leave food out for them,at one time we had 6 on our shed roof.
And at one time when i was sitting in the summerhouse a baby one walked right past the window and across the fish pond,we also have seagulls which are noisy.

Can't hear yourself think here for cawing and twittering birds. Sea gulls, crows, jackdaws. Starts about 4.30am But it is far far better than traffic.

The tractor was out in the field behind my house 2 weeks ago. Mmm! the smell of new cut hay. It was turned every evening for a week and then last week baled and carted off. Each day at 5 I had to shut all the windows and bring in the washing but well worth it to watch our local farmer going about his work ?

I have all the farm noises too and I love it until they harvest and the whole house and cars are covered in crop dust, a right mess if we don't shut windows or get washing in! But I still love it here and love the changing seasons

vikya the foxes dig up the garden beds and leave a really nasty smell behind them. The badgers tear up the grass looking for grubs. If we had acres of garden we wouldn't mind so much, but in our small plot every inch is instantly visible. I enjoy seeing foxes wandering around too, but it puts the fear of God into our elderly cat!

Sumer here in our part of Canada is steamy right now. However, how luxurious it is to have morning coffee on the porch, listening to the birds and feeling the breeze!

Talking about foxes I thought I saw my Ginger Cat going behind a shrub when I looked to see what he was doing a great big fox ran out

Blue skies, lively sun in garden, a little boy stopped to chat to me. made my day.

How I envy you your sweet peas! I've tried for several years to grow mine; every year they start well, with lots of leafy growth, but they never flower! This year they appear to have died completely.

Love sweet peas too and on monday managed to buy 3 bunches from a lovely man selling them outside his house by the river in Bakewell...bliss!! And I agree with humptydumpty - flowers, especially bought flowers, nowadays mostly have no fragrance at all and those which do have a very chemical- smelling undertone probly due to genetic modification and cultivation for looks rather than perfume...ooh the heady scent of freesias so sad not to smell them any more

cc why don't you welcome those as much as deer? We have local foxes and I hardly ever see one but love to do so.

Smell of freshly cut grass is lovely, also the scent of sweet peas, I must grow some next year.
I love going out into the garden and picking flowers to put in a vase, one of the joys of Summer, long may it last!

My jar of sweet peas also has in it some lovely fronds of grasses that I have grown, and also some fennel - I love using that in jars of flowers indoors.

You lucky lot. Flower pots on the windowsill looking out over the concrete city for some. Don't care the sun's shining- all's well.

Today at 7am looking through my countryside bedroom window when brilliant sunshine streaming through the curtains had woken me up I witnessed a wonderful sight There right in front of me were two fallow deer chomping away at my lawn. These deer are gradually being driven out of their natural habitat, looking for food, and which I fear can only increase when observing the UK country side turning into a concrete jungle.

Love the smell of cut grass.
We have tractors going past the house all the time - from about 6 am to about 9 pm. It's a small town, and we are just outside the walls, though it is still quite built-up. I really don't mind the noise as it shows that we can still grow our own food. Besides if we do, we need to have tractors, noise and smells!

My sweet peas are lagging behind this year so I've given them a liquid feed this morning to buck them up a bit.

DH has gone fishing so for a change I think I'll actually sit in the garden with my book and turn a blind eye to all the jobs that need doing.

Yesterday afternoon the wind got up for at bit, and there was the lovely sound of my neighbour's washing snapping in the wind. She'd been washing bed linen.

Later my other neighbour was sitting in her front garden talking on the phone and brilliantly recalling the anecdote about Winston Churchill who was heard by some-one speaking very loudly in the adjacent room. This man asked some-one else who the Prime Minister was talking so loudly to and was told "Oh, that will be Edinburgh". "Hasn't he heard of the telephone?" was the reply. I was wondering the same or rather, why my neighbour was using her phone at all.

This morning I went into the garden and picked a colander full of peas ,then I sat on the patio and podded them.
They are for our evening meal of posh fish and chips.
Salmon fillets baked in the oven with a topping of parmesan, parsley and fine breadcrumbs.
A glass or two of chilled white and what more could I want.
Well I won't answer that but it is pretty good.
