Yes it was OldMeg, the police arrested a young man but no further details yet. The one a few miles away on Saddleworth Moor May have been started by a carelessly discarded cigarette, or so the farmer whose sheep were endangered believes, based on what he’s seen.
Hello farview, I’ve just driven to bolton from Warrington, the Winter Hill fire marked by billows of smoke. Devastating.

It’s the thrill of watching the fire engines and helicopters turn out , more so if televised

You have to wonder at the mentality of individuals who start these fires deliberately. They are a disgrace.

It's hard to imagine,unless you live next to the Moors asI do,just how devastatingly sad it is,the loss of wildlife doesn't bear thinking about,the Moors will take years to recover,I live near Winter hill,been on national news today,fire started Thursday, deliberately,man been arrested,the smoke plumes are massive,smells awful,choking,we have helicopters to&from to the reservoir to drop water,vast numbers of fire engines and bless those fireman working their socks off 24/7..the breeze is making things worse,if it reaches the pine forests.well..doesnt bear thinking about, feel so very sad..
