Soop's comfortable and friendly kitchen...

Most of us lot are in the same boat...or whatever it is that we share as we mature. It's helpful to have a sense of humour. We share that too.

It has rained steadily for most of the day. I can see the grass/flowers/trees growing before my very eyes. A very welcome sight.

The 54 year old sister of our ex daughter-in-law had died. she was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago. The cancer returned and was incurable. She set herself goals. Every goal with the exception of her latest ^ to see her latest grandchild born in two weeks time^ she achieved, and did her best to enjoy. Recently she went into a hospice. A few days ago, she intended to attend a party in her honour. Sadly, she was unable to attend. Two of our granddaughters, her nieces, were there with their babies. They have told me that it was a lovely occasion. I felt that her story was inspirational.

I'm ready to log off until I return from tomorrow's care home visit. I'm hoping that M (the lady with dementia and a delightful singing voice), will agree to repeat last week's "performance". She put a smile on many faces.

Sam has currently had his second shower of the day and the poor lad is so warm he's not even shaking off the water...just content to lay there and steam gently !!

I think he's going to have to go for a short back and sides asap .

mcem fracturing and dislocating my ankle so having it pinned and plated in 2009 set me down the future proof route but after I could walk etc again.

I had to get rid of my bath - although I could get in I could not get out so I have a lovely shower and bought a separate stool. It was then I bought new raised loos and it was the best buy ever. I notice the difference when going out for a meal or even to a friend's house. I have had both knees replaced and my house is almost ready if I needed a hip replacing but I do not intend having any more surgery.

I share your frustrations rather mcem........but having made an evident great recovery thus far I agree with your thinking re future proofing.Nothing quite like "Striking whilst the iron is hot!!!"
Why not do most of your showroom searching on the web?
I.... who love going around these places had to do this to refit and refurnish an entire Apartment on it appearing to be our next home.
It took a lot of time but just think of the exhaustion,car parking charges and shoe leather I saved ???
There is always a way........ and a good one to fill in those hours you may not be quite able to do all you need on foot........yet.

The dire amber warnings given for us humans this week are a little on the scary side,whilst telling us it will be as hot or hotter than Jamaica truly is amazing...........however what about our poor pets,dogs,cats and all else.......most of us will find the right answer and keep our pets in the cool,but I dread to think of those whom continue for instance leaving their big dogs in a car "whilst they just nip out"......words fail me because we know full well how they suffer so quickly with those heavy furry coats.

Whilst Soop you have my commiserations there suffering with that rear end,it is not in the least bit funny,and these things take their time to heal.......just go nice and easy for the now.

A mammoth undertaking outside in our frontage,another Kalahari here I`m afraid.......furthermore one of our finer deep green fir trees,all 12/14' high has burnt to a cinder over this period.My dear man is undertaking dismantling it and it is not a job for the faint hearted,or a man of his age and with his health issues..........but with this being almost the first thing seen by visitors ......or viewers....to our house,of course sooner the dastardly deed is done and cleared away the better.

Probably brought on by traitor remark!!!.....I was astounded to read that possibly the choiciest of all our beaches, Barafundle, is off limits because of being overly full of visitors.That I think could be said of most of our 64+ beaches this year!!!
Surely this is exactly the weather we all want for our holidays........and so our beaches are rather full.......so what????
By the way should you opt for lovely Marloes beach,it is about 5 miles from our house and you would pass our place to get there.......... there would always be a coffee awaiting you, were you to drop by!

Well as I continue to consider the sorting out of my bathroom I have taken the advice given a few weeks ago about a higher loo but am having problems finding one that will fit into the corner.
My recent injury has convinced me of that, and also of the removal of the bath. Am attempting to futureproof!
The number of falls, op's and injuries reported here have convinced me that it's the way to go.
If only I could find the energy/enthusiasm to go and look round showrooms and arrange a consultation with the plumber!

Poor Sam, I do feel for him. I do not know where Tara attempts to cool down during the day. Is Hattie feeling the heat or is she not awake long enough to notice?

Still no rain here and it is going to get hotter.

Ann please do not worry about not liking Magnums- in this heat they fly off the shelves so it is more for us if you do not like them.

That is my washing machine repaired- next one the computer on Wednesday and then I will be going for a very long lie down as my wallet will be empty.

Now for a delicious cup of coffee.

Bum so sore to perch on. Well, to be truthful, right buttock is sore to sit on. I cannot pick stuff off the floor. I can barely sit on the lavvy (terrible trouble aiming the wee in the right direction). In fact, keep this to yourselves, please, I didn't make it to the toilet in time for a full pee in the early hours. It took me too long to get out of bed...there was a dribble on the bathroom floor. MacSporran bless him, is washing the floor as I type.

It appears that many of our Granspals have experienced at least one fall. It's not that we take risks. It's because we are maturing and our balance is off kilter. I cannot raise myself off the floor/out of the bath. Unless I can roll onto my front, adopt a kneeling position, have something sturdy to hold on to...I'm doomed. I have a strange feeling that I may die as a result of a catastrophic fall. there, I've said it. It's good to share.

Even I am feeling the heat at night so at present do not always need my 15 tog duvet!

The heat is draining isn’t it? I think last night was the hottest yet and I really cannot shed any more (except the Chanel No. 5) to keep cooler

Grampy is on the mend thank goodness Maw and much as it grieved us to postpone the kids it was the right call. We shall collect them this Wednesday for a few days instead.

Oh dear soop what are we to do with you ???? That sounds like a painful tumble !! Did someone suggest sending you a big roll of bubble wrap for future night-time forays? If so I'm with that!!!

Sam is suffering greatly in the heat , not least of which is he's missing his walks. We sat in the garden last night and he brought his treasured 'ratty' to us and presented it to Grampy ready to chase it but we couldn't bring ourselves to make him even hotter. Today we have put up the tiny pool and although Sam doesn't know it , he will be taking a dip later.....

I am off to stand in a cool shower …..

We have had three very dull but muggy days and certainly some rain overnight.
Now I have long hesitated to say this in fear of being drummed out of the kitchen but here goes, I do not like magnums.
In fact I am not keen on ice cream at all ?

I have had a rough few days and when I feel more able to catch up on your exploits, my word I feel I need another week`s rest!!!!
I thought I was prone to being overly fond of computing but pleased to see there are others of similar ilk here..........and all very interesting.
Thank you for reminding me of the life there is out there for those fortunate enough to still travel,you make it all mouth watering and truly get my feet itching to trot along!

Whilst Soop what are we to do with you,I thought falling backwards on my then big butt in the bath was bad enough,and yes it did mean one poor man had to actually haul me out the bath,with A & E next stop........where I was all strapped up ................. but you have seemngly gone one further...........and yes, I do remember Oh! boy it hurts!!!
However a staunch lady like yourself will overcome bruises and all.............though please do take it easy,stop rushing around,we do need you in one piece you know!!!
I have not stepped into that bath since, but of course your need for the loo cannot be halted!!!

Doodle that is a superb idea but have you got something with which to tie her down? The minor problem I have I do not know how long for.

soop you must be 100% fit when you and MacS go for that long weekend. Also many of us would struggle to visit you in hospital because of the distance.

I once fell off a step ladder and thought I'd dislocated my false hip. Went to the Doc's, he said only bruised ("only".)
Takes a while, but maybe lesson learned?

Thank you Doodle I hope Paw would agree that life is for living and would be particularly pleased to see me getting to know little Flynn better the way I became close to the other DGC in Birmingham.
It does sadden me though to remember than the one regret he expressed to the Palliative Care consultant in MKH was not seeing his grandchildren growing up.
Oh dear, now I am making myself cry.

Oh kity we went to that open air Shakespeare years ago when I was a Sam in Bedford. Unlike this summer it was freezing and, envisaging something like Glyndebourne I had gone glammed up.
I suppose I should have sensed it was otherwise when I saw my fello Sams getting on to the coach with shawls, blankets, even duvets!
There is something wonderful about open air Shakespeare on a summer’s evening isn’t there?
