Here we are again
Happy as can be
All good pals and jolly good company.
Never mind the weather
Never mind the rain?
As long as we're together
Here we go again...
Welcome and please feel free to open the Bubbly and tuck into a virtual Magnum choc ice. smile

You really are a saint soop you are both very lucky to have found each other.
I have just had a very surreal experience, yesterday I rang a friend of over 50 years to catch up on the news as they moves away about 4 years ago and we don't see much of them now.
You may remember that they came by train to see us about 5 weeks ago ,which was kind of them , and we enjoyed their visit.
They weren't at home yesterday so she was returning my call, that in itself was odd as she said she knew by ringing 1471, I said but I left you a message, she was very vague about that saying she eventually found it.
She then went on to say they had been away for the weekend and hadn't got home until late.
Then she said her H had had a stroke.
It was 3 weeks ago today, she rang an ambulance as he wasn't well and after checking him over the paramedics didn't think it was anything much but " they would take him in if he agreed"
Eventually he did and to cut a very long story short he was admitted to a stroke ward and had "she said" an MRI.
She didn't go to hospital with him as she didn't know how she would get home. He was discharged the next day having been told he had a clot on the brain, but had no treatment although now on aspirin and statins.
She said how unreal it all is, how unsettled she is etc, but seemed to have forgotten that my H had a severe stroke about 10 weeks ago, was thrombolysed, was in hospital for 7 days and has brain damage on top of his dementia.
I came off the phone wondering if I had got the story right or not.I am now very unsettled myself as to if she is ok herself and if I didn't come across as overly sympathetic.
The fact that they could have a weekend away less than 3 weeks later astounded me.

soop Tue 10-Jul-18 16:24:25

Ann No wonder you are perplexed. Your friend may be developing some kind of early dementia. Otherwise, she would not appear to be so vague and not mention your own husband's health problems. Do you know other members of her family? If so, you could check things out discreetly. It's a difficult one, I agree.

Panache Tue 10-Jul-18 16:30:50

All I can say Ann............none as queer as folk..........and again very often sadly, folk can be so full of them selves, busily off loading their tales of woe........without thought,consideration......or even remembering the predicament you have with your own H.
Time to dismiss it all I suggest.......or at least do not dwell upon it.

What a performance Soop but with "the patience of Job" amazing the things you can do!!!

You certainly need to put one big cross on the calendar for your record quick appointment Greyduster.....and the choice of dates for X ray.
We often visit our Surgery in the afternoon finding we are alone!!
...........different story in the mornings and especially a Monday!
Sorry about your sad news of the passing of your friend`s husband.

Thanks ...............and you Doodle re my legs which are now more like beer barrels!.....hoping to catch up on sleep .........Sorry folk.....I am a right drip!!

I have a feeling Maw would look glam if she merely went in her P.J`s.........it is a conundrum what to don out in the evenings, as some nights do get much cooler (But not here as yet!!)

Time I took myself off I guess, but not before wishing you all a pleasant evening.

soop Tue 10-Jul-18 16:36:45

Greyduster Poor MacSporran had been agonising all morning with reference to cancelling the hotel we had chosen just yesterday afternoon. He greeted me thus..."please don't be cross (as if) but I do not wish to stay at the hotel we've already paid for." I looked vague. As you do when plans appear to be going t**'s-up. I took in a deep breath and invited him to explain, preferably without getting himself all tongue-tied and flustered. So, having trawled through the website telling us that the cancellation would cost us just over £100 shock he said that as we hadn't a holiday since 2004, he would like us to upgrade and pay out an *extra £100 on doing so.* Oh, my! I couldn't help but grin. So there we are...four days booked in a posh hotel and a guarantee that he will not change his mind. What's a girl to do? Smile sweetly and start planning which garments to pack.

soop Tue 10-Jul-18 16:40:58

Panache What you are not is a right drip. Us lot say so.

I really do need to pedal the exercise bike. I've been too busy to anything other than book and unbook hotels for a day or so. Ain't life grand?

Ironing duties in the morning. I shall be back in our kitchen as soon as I return. Please take care. smile moon

Gagagran Tue 10-Jul-18 17:27:15

Panache I hope you get your legs sorted out - elevation, hydration and keep out of the hot sun I was told at the hospital yesterday. I am feeling much more positive now I know I don't have a DVT.

The Doppler ultrasound I had was pretty painful in part - they grab your leg at strategic points (groin to ankle) and squeeze really hard at the same time pressing the ultrasound thingy in. Worth the result though!

I'm so pleased you have booked your luxury break Soop. We kitcheners all think that you both deserve it and it will set you up for winter if we get a lovely September, as we often do.

It's much cooler here today so not as weary and I have actually got the ironing done.

There's some home-made strawberry icecream in the freezer if anyone fancies it - help yourselves! wink

Panache Tue 10-Jul-18 17:46:46

Bags me some home made straw berry ice cream Gagagran.........and thanks for the tips re legs........great news for you......delighted.

Whilst Soop I am your gal if you need help to sort out your packing!!!...........Good dear thoughtful MacS

I AM off this time!!

Doodle Tue 10-Jul-18 19:50:11

soop how lovely McSporran is a star. ?Knew he'd take good care of you. You deserve it.

MawBroon Tue 10-Jul-18 22:55:31

Just to say I am sitting in the theatre bar in Regents Park with a glass of wine waiting for DD to finish "notes" with the director.
The production was magical and the cashmere poncho just right.
Life can be very good!
#feelingblessed

Doodle Tue 10-Jul-18 23:22:54

Glad you had a good time maw ?

Greyduster Wed 11-Jul-18 08:57:54

Good morning, the kitchen. Glad you enjoyed your evening, Maw. This weather is a godsend to open air productions.
Our “theatre” experience was slightly more uncomfortable. It was stiflingly hot in the school hall, with programmes being employed as fans! But the kids were brilliant. There was singing, dancing, humour, pathos and wobbly sets, and a good time was had by all!
I have to take myself off to the hospital for an X-ray on the dodgy hip this morning. It is a walk in service so I hope it is not going to be too busy.
Well, I did something quite out of character yesterday, egged on by DH. I bought a pair of pink trainers!! Yes, you heard it - PINK!! I have never worn pink shoes in my life. He said he liked them, which is the worst possible reason I can think of for actually buying them. I have not taken the labels off and I am having a serious wobble, so they may have to go back if courage fails altogether......
Well I will get myself ready for the day, and look in later to see what you have all been up to.

Charleygirl Wed 11-Jul-18 09:00:16

Also pleased that you had a good time and you took the correct clothing so that hypothermia did not set in. That would have spoiled your evening.

MawBroon Wed 11-Jul-18 10:47:14

Let’s hear it for the PINK trainers! Rock chick Gran or what?

I bought some white ones with silver toecaps (granny bovver boots?) which are like walking on air.
Skechers needless to say.

cornergran Wed 11-Jul-18 11:01:22

Sounds a wonderful evening maw, the clothes were just right.

We’ve a school hall production on Saturday, greyd, suspect we will also melt. Two hours, wonder how little clothing I can get away with?

There’s a very traditional family funeral on Friday. Just for once my clothes are easier than the men’s. I’ve a cream top and cream and black skirt, they are dithering over jackets. I said not needed and certainly our family member wouldn’t want them to roast. They’re worried. Funny old world really.

Sorry, can’t catch up with everyone, off to physio then some sea air which is much needed here today, it’s very humid. Sufficiently so for me to have sympathy with the physio needing to touch a far from cool body blush.

Panache Wed 11-Jul-18 14:52:34

Time to pop my head around our kitchen door, hello folks and a little cooler on our coast today, hence I actually managed some sleep!!

I was about to jump right in and show my willingness to take your pink trainers off you Greyduster if you really decide against..........but like our Maw I think you should simply dive in and enjoy!
Loving this era when just about anything goes!
Hope the X ray will not take up your whole day either.

Three cheers for the "bovver boots" Maw.....great.......glad you managed to get just the right outfit to meet the perhaps cooler evening.

I think these open air productions and events are wonderful, especially idyllic with this summer`s weather enticing us out into the outdoors at all hours.

You too have your funeral outfit just right Corner, not always easy.......sounds fun physio... followed by more sea air.
Next "worry" is sorting out the coolest attire for the saturday school production!

Trusting the weather pleases you Doodle and Charley...........and of course all those entering indoors this afternoon............I am just wondering if I dare poke my nose outside ......or "hide" in the shade???

soop Wed 11-Jul-18 14:55:15

Maw I'm delighted to hear that your recent treat was a huge success. Yes, indeed, life does throw a dollop happiness in our direction from time to time. The secret is to be ready to receive it. flowers

*corner At my late mother's funeral my late father stressed...wear bright colours. The hymn he chose on her behalf was - All things Bright and Beautiful. A very sensible choice on her behalf.

Finished ironing duties. Another wee note for the knicker drawer. wink

I shall relax with my coffee and watch a little Wimbledon magic unfold.

Back a little later. smile

soop Wed 11-Jul-18 14:56:13

Please note...we have enjoyed a decent shower of much needed rain.

NanaandGrampy Wed 11-Jul-18 16:59:14

Evening all,

I'm afraid I get B- for effort, I am no where near caught up with all the comings and goings . So please forgive me - must try harder ;-)

I cant stay long as I have a few things to do but sending everyone my thoughts if you need them and if you don't - please ignore them !!

I'll just leave you with a picture of the footie fans !! It was 'Wear Red for England' Day at school !!

NanaandGrampy Wed 11-Jul-18 17:02:56

Nearly forgot …… had to share this picture of Jackson yesterday - he wanted to wear a bow tie' for a change' to school !!

I love the fact that he is so unselfconscious !!

soop Wed 11-Jul-18 17:45:33

N&G Darling Jackson. He looks proper smart. I've a photo Of Teddy "wearing" his daddy's England shirt. I shall upload it tomorrow.

Excellent tennis. I'm exhausted! I shall return in a refreshed state of mind in the morning.

smile moon

soop Wed 11-Jul-18 17:49:45

Edward John, AKA Teddy is ready to support England.

MawBroon Wed 11-Jul-18 18:03:47

Somebody is trying to pretend he isn’t tired!
But Janny knows better ???

annodomini Wed 11-Jul-18 18:04:03

Oh soop! Were you watching the defeat of Roger Federer? Maybe he is feeling his great age - 36! I can't remember what it was like to be 36. Your idol, Rafa, seems to be having quite a tussle with del Potro. You can see what I've been doing this afternoon. Excuse - I had a bad headache this morning, took some paracetamol and promptly dropped off for more than 40 winks. Head is not so bad now but obviously needed to be 'rested'. However, I have to do some ironing now or I won't be able to face the family at the weekend. The train journey on Friday will be disrupted by a replacement bus service between Banbury and Oxford - down the M40 and notorious A34 on a Friday afternoon!
Maw - that sounds like a good evening out. And very appropriate gear including the shiny toecaps! Don't give me ideas. I was looking at my shoe rack yesterday and discovered that I have 15 pairs of Hotter footwear including boots, shoes, slippers and sandals - some dating back a good many years. And two pairs of Skechers, just the beginning of another collection. hmm

Charleygirl Wed 11-Jul-18 18:38:13

anno I also took pain killers for my knee today and of course fell asleep and I have no idea how long for. I had problems sleeping last night for the same reason.

I have to take another couple when I have my supper or I will be sitting watching the football and squirming. I only hope that England will keep me engaged so that I do not nod off.

I was delighted to see Kevin Anderson win that match- he worked so hard- definitely mind over matter. As I sit here I am willing on Del Potro.

After my main course I have a lovely dish of strawberries prepared- luckily I am not a fan of cream- just a sprinkling of sugar.

N&G Cooper and Jackson look great in their England shirts and I do admire Jackson's sartorial elegance- he does know how to dress!

Teddy is bright as a button, ready for the match.

Maw is that young Flynn?

JaneD3 Wed 11-Jul-18 18:41:45

I have lots of Hotters too! Lots of shoes generally! But I am cutting down. (Honestly, I AM!)
