Royal family or a president?

To put my comments regarding the RF into less frivolous terms,
I much prefer them to a President, they are part & Parcel of this country , the current ones do a lot of good for charities, tourism etc. If they weren’t here our lives would not be any different & I get really fed up with the spiteful comments about a family who cannot openly defend themselves & have just as much right to their lives as each & everyone of us. Those of us commenting on here are far better off than many many others, perhaps we should sell our computers stop prattling on at each other & give the proceeds to a good cause.

Ohh I so agree , that is why I think some people should be ashamed of how they present their views about the Royal Family,& who can no more help being who they are than you or I , but hey that’s ok to be rude about them behind our anonymity is it ...?

It seems to be the fashion these days to make sarcastic comments and then, when disapproval is expressed, say it was intended to be an amusing little joke. It's a form of passive aggressiveness.

When I joined the Brownies I had to promise to “ do my duty to God and the King”. Yes, I’m that old. They were both equal fairytales to me so I wasn’t concerned. I wouldn't worry about swearing allegiance to the Queen now, either. It’s just words and symbolism, rather like the Americans saluting the flag or whatever they do.

I don’t feel remotely like a ‘subject’, but again I don’t let the word worry me.

Perhaps it’s time for some ‘subjects’ to emigrate to a perfect fairyland or should I say Lalaland. Please send a post card to GN when you find it, then we can all come & join you ?

Who wants to be a "subject" who, in order to take on certain public positions or apply for British citizenship, has no choice but to swear allegiance to a king or queen and his/her heirs and successors? It is, in my view, totally inappropriate for a supposedly progressive country since it enshrines inequality and privilege.

No just quietly put out to grass, like many ex Royal families, but if they were really into public service nothing to stop them standing for election.

We could get rid of the Royals if they turned corrupt, as other countries have done. It was done in this country too, and we got that charming, civilised Cromwell.

I’m not sure how we’d get rid of them, though. Guillotine, like the French? Shooting, like Russia?

Imposed - like mad George, Bloody Mary, Edward 7th, not to mention loads of wastes of spaces in the house of Lords only there because of family connections. If elected, at least we’ve only got ourselves to blame and can get rid.

Elected v. Imposed, Saggi? Elected like Trump, Thatcher, Hitler? It doesn't seem to work, does it? And there is then no history or continuity. No, thank you.

Let's de-bunk another myth about the royal family bringing in tourism..... Paris is THE most visited place in Europe and they got rid of their aristocracy over 200 years ago. !! They are an an anachronism of which we must be rid. Let the queen see her time out and then shut them down!

Add the House of Lords to the list....again....unelected!!! No place in today's society for these people living off their priveilage!

A head of State would still need homes to entertain other heads of State from around the world to further British interests, and the staff plus budget for travel, entertaining and staff.

People would be moaning about that then, if that happened.

And president Boris? After the Queens exemplary service, no one could match up to her example.
