Sitting in the garden

I must admit I don't spend much time in our garden. It's a big garden with lots of lawn and flower beds, a big patio and a summerhouse, but am I out there now in the sunshine - no. I'm upstairs in my chilly craft room on the computer! My DH does most of the gardening, we choose the plants together, he puts them in and cares for them. I just admire the results. We have comfortable garden furniture (though I would love a swing seat) but to be honest I get bored after 30 minutes or so. I sometimes manage a couple of hours in the garden if I've got a good book to read, but I soon start thinking about what I could be doing indoors..... I'm even worse at the beach (which is just 10 minutes from home) and after fifteen minutes or so I'll go for a walk or suggest we go somewhere for a cuppa. I guess I just can't sit still for very long with nothing to do.

This summer bought a little red "bistro" set .....
now make an absolute point of going out in my dressing gown and having a cup of coffee... dew on the grass... chilly but not cold...
Perfect start to every / any day.... even when the cold mist is rolling in...

I think some gardens and the lay out of homes are more convenient to enjoying the outside if that makes sense to anyone. It’s kinda hard work for me to access by back garden table and chairs. Makes me sound lazy doesn’t it? I’d love to have a house where you just open the door and there is nature.

I've been sitting out today but this afternoon the east northumberland coast had a nasty wind so did a bit of weeding and then into Jamie's and curled up. I do like sitting out when I've got time

Our garden is a good size for a semi and is fairly private, I have breakfast in the garden if it is warm enough and I love pottering and gardening. Several times a day in this good weather I go for a potter, usually find a few weeds to pull up. Also veg to pick for our dinner. DH has never gardened, not allowed up the garden now in case he falls on the steps (the garden slopes up from the small patio) so I do it all. Much better than housework, it doesn't need dusting and no DH to untidy it!

Spent the afternoon with my GS his wife and Grt GD who is 8 mths in the garden while my GS helped OH fix up a new pump for his pond I got out a rug under spread it 7nder my cherry tree and myself his wife and baby sat on the grass playing, the little one ate her lunch and then sucked on cucumber and tomato slices.
The sun was lovely and it was just perfect.

I love sitting outside. I don't like sitting in the sun although try to for about 20 mins a day in good weather to get the vitamin D. I have a table and chairs in the shade and can happily spend all day out there with my knitting or kindle. It's so much more pleasant than being indoors were my husband has it so warm but likes the curtains shut so the sun doesn't get on the tv or his computer screen.

I'm with you Willow , I hate the outdoors and always have ,unless I am in a beautiful city with wonderful architecture, history etc. Hotel pools and loungers fill me with horror! I can read for hours but seldom out of doors. I did all that al fresco stuff with my children and grandchildren out of duty but no more.When asked if I'd like to go for a walk my reply is "What?Outside?"

I love to be out in the sunshine, going for a walk, wandering across a beach looking in rock pools, strolling along a clifftop, walking through fields, etc. But if I sit out in the garden I just get the fidgets and want to be indoors doing something, anything, even if it's just catching up on GN. I don't know why, but I find it hard just to sit there doing nothing, or even reading. If family or friends are visiting that's different - I can sit outside with them and chat, but not on my own or with DH. I wish I could, because I kind of love the idea of sitting outside, just not the reality. I know, I'm weird

I’m really surprised and puzzled how so many Gransnetters dislike the outdoors.
What is there to dislike? Not looking for an argument but I’m genuinely puzzled as to why so many prefer being indoors to enjoying fresh air and natural surroundings outside.

I don't really like sitting in the sun any more but do like being out in my garden. I have the back door open first thing in the morning as long as it is dry and the first bench seat is right outside the door - quite often have my first cuppa or porridge there. I also have a small patio set there for when husband manages out but his mobility is limited these day and have also another bench just before the next level of the garden. Down there catches the sun in the afternoon and it is very sheltered so use it the most. There is also another bench nearby. The whole garden is very private and I wander about at various times weeding, etc. Also have a very old metal patio set for which I have made comfy seat cushions but it's not very private - just waiting for a couple of shrubs to give us a bit more screening and will be used in the late evening in the summer (if it comes this year!)
I used to be stuck in an office for many years so really enjoy relaxing outdoors. Husband, on the other hand, who worked mainly outdoors is not really bothered although now he is a bit housebound does try to come out and join me which is good.

For as much of the year as i can the garden becomes another room - i call it my 'summer room', and I am out there as much as possible - i take breakfast and lunch out most days during the week, and we have bbq's as often as we can, either just for us or with hubby's family, who humour us, although I think they secretly would prefer a more usual dinner sat to the formal dining table! it is so peaceful, and the only time I feel properly alive!

Oh how I miss my garden, loved to be in it all the time even when it was winter just wander around.
We sold our house 14 years ago and moved into a flat with a garden which is shared with 7 others but no one sits in it.
Ernie our dear old neighbour in the ground floor flat used to potter about and planted some plants in pots, sadly he died so we will take that over in memory of him we pay for a man to cut the grass but just not the same.

I love sitting in the sun reading my book when on holiday. However, really never sat in garden much as I would usually sit down and then notice something needing doing. Now we have moved and only have a balcony I find myself sitting out there to eat and relax. Don't miss the garden one bit.

In many ways I'm the same. I love my garden and feel that my soul would die if I had to live in a flat. I love to look at the garden and admire whatever is out at the moment. I go out to mow and edge the lawn, water the borders that need it, deadhead and weed. I've a small patio set where I sometimes sit - but it's more a case of doing so as it's meant to be healthy to get 15 minutes of sunshine to boost vitamin D levels rather than for pleasure. I've never been a sunbather as it bores me to death - I'd rather be doing something. Sun-lovers would think me weird.

I hung out some washing a couple of days ago and afterwards sat in the garden. It was so quiet and peaceful. There were a few birds fluttering about. I let the sun shine on my face for half an hour before i went indoor again.

I'm sitting here reading this while the sun is shining and I'm wishing I could be outside in this lovely weather. However, a nasty stomach bug means that leaving the house is not recommended and even the garden can prove a step too far.

I can walk in a breeze but not sit in one, so sitting outside is limited for me. We're all different. Hmm ..... maybe it's time to use the outside
table and chair space for something else. A shed? Problem solved. Let's open a bottle!
