First birthday present after we were married, a biography of Hart Crane, an American poet who committed suicide.

I never buy the wife flowers as she prefers not to receive any and plants get forgotten and die. One night I did come home with a bunch of flowers and my son pointed out that I'd left the price on them. Truth be known, they gave them to me free as the store was closing for the night! I eventually confessed with a smile!

I HONESTLY don't think romance has died if we do things for each other. ...
EG....I'm on the loo and ask my Hubby to bring me some toilet rolls in......we both had a laugh saying how romantic it was.
I like that we do practical things for each other.....it means that we are

A side gate for my birthday in November and a pallet of bricks for a front garden wall for Christmas in the same year, I've learnt to ask for something unromantic, my darling husband hasn't got a clue about romance, so I always ask for a job to be done!!!!!!! I love him to bits though he does so much for me,?

For my first Christmas married, my then DH bought me some Kitchen Devil knives.
For my birthday in year 3, he gave me a tumble dryer.

I used to get very pissed off when his sisters bought me stuff like tea towels, apron and matching tea cosy! Especially when he always got something for himself. Maybe if they’d bought them for him he might have taken the hint and washed up. Doubt it though. Yes we are divorced.

There was the year I got the set of drain rods. And the year I got a sack barrow. I had mentioned the need, but was nevertheless surprised. Fortunately they both arrived with a small box enclosing something shiny.

I’m very lucky that on the whole my DH is thoughtful and generous HOWEVER he buys me so many pot plants it looks like bloomin’ Kew Gardens here at times.

We have more orchids than you would find in a Japanese garden or wherever the originate from.

Once every few weeks he has a mass watering session and lines them up in the kitchen ??????????

He buys you a bottle of his favourite wine for your birthday pressie (Chardonnay which gives you a headache!).

When he buys you an electric sander for Christmas. AN ELECTRIC SANDER !!!! May I add that it WASN'T because he secretly wanted it for himself!

Lying around swimming pool in Cyprus in April holding hands. I looked into his eyes and asked if he was happy.....his smile vanished and he said he really ought to have waited to go on holiday until after the new tax year. That is an accountant for you!

It wasn't the end of a romance but at the beginning of six years together that he bought me leg wax and I bought him odour eaters...

I got 25 bags of Mushroom Compost as a present .

When you are sitting in a restaurant on Valentine's Day with all the other couples gazing longingly into each others eyes with gifts of roses and jewellery whilst you sit talking about whether it might be a good idea to get life insurance as your husband has just found out he might have high blood pressure.

I loved getting things for the kitchen or garden as it meant DH (no.3) had listened to what I wanted. No wonder I stayed married to him for nearly 21 years

Can't remember any truly awful presents but with H no.2 I was planning to start studying (DD was 4) again, I must have known he was going to abandon us.

H no.1 was a control freak, glad it was in the days before mobile phones. He would come home from work & question who I seen, who I'd spoken to, where I'd been. He always pleaded poverty but earned a good wage, no lavish presents for me (but no tin opener either)

Listen girls we boys get those same feelings as well.
How about when you find you wife was cheating on you for years?

It's funny the posts about it being a mistake to buy household utensils etc - I LOVE tools - whether DIY or homemaking things like tin openers. I always used to complain if I received toiletries or jewellery or flowers.

Jillyb - so he broke the pressure cooker and gave you the replacement as a present, hahahaha!
