Happy heart....

Oh dear I knew I shouldn't have read this thread because I have 3 grown up children but NO GRANDCHILDREN yet and so all your beautiful stories have made me cry
But I am really happy for you all and always remember my mum saying that there is no love like the love you feel for your grandchildren.
I live in hope..............!!

How dull our lives would be without our grandchildren, they bring so much fun and love into our lives.

DGS1 (8 yeas old) will for no reason suddenly come up to me & say I love you Nan & give me a hug, can't wait for DGS2 (10 months old) to do the same. No feeling like it

My 6 year old DGD always gives lots of hugs and kisses and “I love you” messages. DGS aged 5 is not affectionate to anyone but his parents. So when he came and held my hand in both of his because it was cold my heart melted.

I am feeling honoured to be able to take my seventeen year old Grandson and his friend, to the UK for a week in the summer, before we knew his friend could come with us I asked if he wouldnt mind if it was just him and me, he said " no Granmda, we always have fun" My heart melted. I know the three of us will have fun, and make memories.

My DS and family have been on holiday for the Easter holidays and returned at the weekend so I popped round to see them. 5 year DVD handed me a little letter, written on rainbow stationery, that said "Dear Granny, we had a lovely holiday. I love you lots. Love Gxxxxx". And sealed with a big heart and kisses. think my heart will burst!

Oh how I would love some grandchildren - just ☝️ would do - I live in hope.

A couple of years ago I was at my daughter's house and my grandson, then eight, for no reason came up to and put gave me the biggest hug, it was so lovely.

My lovely 6 year old, now 7, gave me a hug saying Goodnight Nanny I love You. Then a kiss & off to bed leaving me with happy tears.

My dgs is only 10 months old, so no out of the blue ‘I love yous’ yet.
I did get that full heart feeling the first time I arrived home from visiting dgs and dil had text me saying ‘thank you for coming, we love you’. It was a proper wow, I’m a nanny moment.

that love........those little arms holding us sooo tight. Pure and unconditional. Grateful beyond words to have been given the chance to experience it <3

Until you have grandchildren it is impossible to know just how strongly you can love them. We saw ours at the weekend, and my heart lifts at the sight of their little faces, so eager, happy, full of joy and expecting to be loved. I didn't have grandparents - only child born to middle aged parents who were the youngest of huge families so the grandparents we long dead - and I wanted to give mine all the attention I often didn't have time to give to my DS and DD. Everything else is abandoned and we play games, talk and have such a good time. They do have their moments of course, but I am so grateful to have them, they are the light of my life.

Just spent a few days staying with my daughter, her partner, GS aged 10 and GD aged 16 months. I sleep on the sofa and GS came down every morning and climbed under the duvet for cuddles. He also says 'love You whenever he goes out to play lol. He and his cousin aged 9 always used to cry when they said goodbye at the station but now try to put on a brave face but this time I leant into the car to say goodbye to GD and she held out her arms and cried. Needless to say I boarded the train with blurry eyes. Love them all so much .

DGD 4 playing "tea-parties" with Grandad - leaned over and said - I love Grandad more than you. Pause and although i smiled and said that's nice - she said but i think B(her brother) loves you more than Grandad - talk about throwing me a bone - love them sooooo much!

I told my GS he had been a good boy the other day and he hugged and hugged me for the longest time!

He doesn't often deserve such praise! - but I love him to bits anyway.

My GS is 11 and is not now given to spontaneous demonstrations of affection. It is not “cool” to warmly greet your grandparents when they come to watch you play football, so we are largely ignored - until the other boys have gone and then he clings to us like a limpet with the longest hugs, and always a kiss! That, in itself, is worth getting up on a cold wet Sunday morning for!

I had it all planned to move abroad and start a new life in the sun. Foreign bank account and various legal bits in process...... then.... GS said "please don't leave Granny, we love you". Looks like i am staying here for the foreseeable!

Little things always mean the most ! My AC and GC always make me cry with the loving things they write in my cards too. And when they “quote me” my heart melts. My eldest GD had to face a very challenging situation recently and she just marched in and dealt with it so well. Afterwards she said, I just pretended I was you Nanny and told them calmly but assertively !! It worked and the bullying recipient was very shocked but has since changed their behaviour.

I love & treasure the card my dgd made for me age 4 when my aged cat had to be put to sleep. It's still displayed on my bookcase, though dgd is now a working woman!

We recently took our 5 and 8 year old grandsons on holiday and as we were preparing to return home I asked what was the best thing about it and the five year old responded, "Everything, and don't ask me what was the worst because there wasn't one".

I complimented GS2 (6 years old) on the lovely crystals he had grown on a tree. He leered horribly and said "I like your purple hair Granny" He's definitely learned to lay it on with a trowel

Lona I feel your pain re Happy Families! Of all the toys, games, books and crafting materials my 5 year old GD has at my house, it's always the Happy Families card game she wants to play repeatedly. And it's a very old and tattered pack that her daddy had when he was a boy, so it's lovely to see it being used again.

I love it when GD launches himself at me for a hug... he is almost 14 so I really appreciate how special this is.
