Agree with all you have said GabriellaG. I believe In a quest to be equal in every aspect of life we are actually becoming politically correct for the sake of not for the benifit of it. Everything we say or do cannot be on the premises of enforced equality, it ends up being counter productive IMO

She may have the range but the actual tone and depth of sound as opposed to the baritone of a man, will never quite sound the same.
I can't see why men can't have men's clubs and choirs and women have theirs. We don't need to live in each other's pockets or be equal in EVERY way. It's a fact that we aren't equal and never will be and I, personally, prefer it that way. Neither is superior overall. Each brings qualities which may be separate and those that overlap.
Women's football is never as exciting as men's (unless you prefer women) nor darts, snooker, weightlifting, tennis, golf.
I much prefer male hairdressers as I think they're better at their job and I prefer male voiceovers on documentaries. It's all a matter of preference and I have never felt inferior or unequal to any man.

If a woman has the required vocal range for a "male voice" choir, what's the problem with her being in it?

They are ex-officers not serving policeman and the choir will continue as a community choir. It was merely pointed out that a police choir should be inclusive of all police. Pavlovian response to headlines sells papers and creates outrage but doesn't spread information or encourage thoughtful debate.

It was some bod, a police commissioner or similar who disassociated the police force from the choir until such time as they admitted females.
It's a very sensible idea to keep male voice choirs as male. Imagine Welsh MVCs having women in them, it's just not the same sound, besides, consider that there could be allegations of inappropriate behaviour levied against those men such as 'His leg touched my thigh when we were on the second verse'.

Well, it is about a Derbyshire choir and appears in a Derbyshire newspaper, so if it is a windup there will soon be a refutation by locals who know the truth.

There is a lot of music written specifically for male or female voices - are these to be banned?

And cathedral choirs? - will they be forced to be mixed? I know of cathedral choirs that have 2 choirs - boys and girls choirs. They sound totally different - different timbre completely.

Long live the Male Choirs, I expect somebody objected as someone did to Cadburys, who now have chocolate eggs NOT EASTER eggs.The world has gone mad!

They are still a male choir ( for now) with a new name but they can no longer appear in their uniform which they all proudly did before I was listening to one of the singers talking on the radio and they are all very sad about it

I have just read the actual report. They are staying a male voice choir just changing the name to 'The Derbyshire Community Male Voice Choir' to cut their ties to the police force which has a gender equality policy.

I still think a name, and policy, concerning the voices required would be sensible.

It's true that some of the choir members may 'become' women. Will they be kicked out, even if their singing voices stay the same?

This is just ridiculous. The repertoire for male voice choirs is arranged for male voices. Women can't sing it as they don't have the necessary vocal range!!

The best way to stop this nonsense is for everyone to refuse to buy tickets to see the new mixed police choir and to continue to support the renamed male one wherever they perform. In the same way, I am refusing to go and see the new Black Panther film at the cinema because it contains a black only cast instead of the roles going to the best actors. Reverse racism is okay though, apparently.

Since we now allow gender fluid police officers, someone could join a choir as a man and arrive at the next practice having decided to be a woman that day. They’d still have a male voice.
