What irritates you about other Gransnetters?

Perhaps I should duck before I even start!

I think there are two things which make me wish people didn't do them.

1 When someone asks for really simple advice and people don't read what others have said before saying exactly the same. Yes, I understand on long threads that one cannot read it all and there are posters who say they haven't read it all and hope they are not repeating, they are not irritating.
2 People who post to say they don't know anything about the subject, why post at all then? No, I don't mean those who just want to show sympathy or that they care, of course that is appreciated. It feels like they just have to comment for the sake of commenting.

Perhaps I'm not in a very tolerant mood today. I admit I'm feeling emotional so maybe that is why. Or maybe I'm just plain grumpy!

A poster states their problem situation and asks for advice. They may get some advice but they may also get a number of posts from (annoying) Gransnetters who just ramble on about their own lives in a completely unhelpful way.

A cat is either dead or alive, not both, a moment occurs when it passes from one state to the other.
We cannot know ,in isolation, when that moment occurs.
Therefore quantum physics is an unknown quantity, or I am totally thick, I think I know the answer to the conundrum.

grin Well done, Merlot.
Do you think other Gransnetters find us irritating???

merlotgran Wed 04-Apr-18 22:23:04

Sounds like a conversation with my grandson.

Bathsheba Wed 04-Apr-18 21:58:51

I didn't google it, but I always have to stop and think about it, very slowly and very carefully, before I remember what it's all about. And then I'm still confused even though I kind of understand it grin

Marydoll Wed 04-Apr-18 21:52:16

I think it means that you would not know if the cat was dead or alive until you opened the box, so that until the box was opened, the cat was (in a sense) both "dead and alive".
I think confused
My head hurts! ?

Mapleleaf Wed 04-Apr-18 21:07:14

I googled it to, merlotgran, and I’m no wiser either!?

Marydoll Wed 04-Apr-18 20:26:38

What died first, the printer or the cat?

Jane10 Wed 04-Apr-18 20:25:12

But it might be...

Jalima1108 Wed 04-Apr-18 19:35:13

it was my printer
but not my cat

grin

Jalima1108 Wed 04-Apr-18 19:33:25

A bit like:
If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Of course, the tree could fall on Schrodinger's cat and kill it anyway.

mollie Wed 04-Apr-18 19:31:52

I made a comment about hijacked threads and came back to see that there were lots of comments about printers and apologies about changing the subject. Just in case something thinks I meant that minor diversion, I didn’t. Just a case of coincidence. Just in case anyone thought...

merlotgran Wed 04-Apr-18 19:02:32

Me neither. grin

Greyduster Wed 04-Apr-18 18:59:10

And I still don’t bloody understand it!!

Greyduster Wed 04-Apr-18 18:58:33

blush!

merlotgran Wed 04-Apr-18 18:54:42

Hands up all of you who have been googling Schrodinger's cat this afternoon? grin

Baggs Wed 04-Apr-18 18:38:15

One learns to skip merrily over them, chew! ?

Chewbacca Wed 04-Apr-18 18:28:09

Like Oldwoman70 I too dislike the often dodgy links, sometimes accompanied with a post that just says "this is interesting". I'd rather that any links were supported by an opinion or opening to a discussion, but it feels, to me any rate, as though something's being slapped on the table with instructions to "read that". hmm

whitewave Wed 04-Apr-18 18:05:33

Nothing bothers me that much really. It isn’t real life so honestly GN can be taken or left. I twitter away on it but could easily just as well not bother.

Anniebach Wed 04-Apr-18 17:57:31

links to blogs ,

lemongrove Wed 04-Apr-18 17:44:08

Maw and Greenfinch no need for anyone to feel upset it was obviously a misunderstanding.
I’m not upset either, but Shrodingers cat may be feeling a bit put out.smile?

Baggs Wed 04-Apr-18 16:36:52

Hypersensitivity can be irritating, making it all about you when it isn't.

Otherwise, having read this thread right through, there's not much I seem to find irritating about other gransnetters. The not much part of that sentence is important. Things on the not much shelf (figure of speech) are best kept to myself as probably being too pointed.

In general, I have found shrugs and hey hoes useful.

Greyduster Wed 04-Apr-18 16:04:55

There are a lot of us about, Oldwoman grin.

Oldwoman70 Wed 04-Apr-18 15:54:25

I have to say it annoys me when people just post a link to a blog or whatever. I like to read their opinions in their words, not the opinion of someone else who they happen to agree with. Often someone will post several links and to be honest I don't bother reading them and I will leave that thread.

I think the politics threads in particular can get very, shall we say, cutting, because people have very strong views, I just wish there could just be calm debate.

I am another who has the super power of either closing a thread or whose posts are invisible grin

Marydoll Wed 04-Apr-18 15:46:20

For all those who have upset on this thread, I'm sure it wasn't intentional. Please don't stop posting, there are lots of nice people on here. flowers
