Life is strange

If I ever am able to take a journey again, as much as I love elder granddaughter , it would be back to New Quay , there are times when I ache to be there again . Holidayed there with parents and siblings . Went most Sundays with my husband ,before we married, he proposed there ?. Holidays there when we had our children and went back for holidays with parents and my children after my husband died, I belong there

I have lived on the coast all my life and used to swim in it most days isuer whrn I was young Sadly due to the high sea defence I can't see the sea from my windows. We used to walk the dog for miles along the cliffs years ago but I haven't walked on the prom for years H "walks along the top" to get his paper every day.
The sea dosen't have the pull on me as some of you describe Though I love to watch a rough sea.

My Mam and Dad , always wanted to return to Wales when my Dad retired from teaching. They had a bungalow sorted out near Penarth, to retire to. Then my Dad had a stroke.
They never were able to move.
DH and I have moved to the sea in SW Wales. In part I feel we did it for my parents.

Annie Every now and again life seems to have a little trick up its sleeve.

Hopefully when they are settled you will be able to have a little visit and get to breathe in some sea air.
It is so therapeutic.

I so wish I could have the sea breeze through my hair at the moment I don't mind how cold it is. ?

what is the attraction I wonder
Some would say it's where we come from.
I can't bear to be away from the sea. When we take our long schlapp to Spain or Bulgaria we both get excited when we see the sea again.
When I'm in the middle of Europe it's almost a claustrophobic feeling when I think how far away from the sea I am.

Being brought up from an early age to feel heather and gritstone under my feet at weekends, I never thought about the sea much except that we went to all the usual Northern coastal resorts for holidays and as I got older I hated them. When our own children were small, DH was seconded to a small unit in Pembrokeshire and we lived there for a year. That was when I fell in love with the sea, and with Pembrokeshire.

Well, at least you know they have jobs and will be happy.

I love the sea, too. A day near the sea is like a mini holiday..
Its good for the soul, I think.

I always found the sea healing . My elder daughter loved the sea, younger daughter no, she loves the mountains , then leaves Wales to live in .Lincolnshire ! I love the mountains and the sea, not the flat bits between ?

Would you be able to take a train there Annie?
We have lived near the sea twice in our married life, DH likes it more than I do, I prefer the countryside.
Watching Shetland makes me relieved that we don’t live anywhere near there!
We are an island nation though, and the sea is never all that far away.

Life does have a strange way of turning full circle doesn't it Annie ?

So sad that you and your DH never got "your chance" to fulfill your dreams. Lovely that your DGD and her partner will be living on the coast but a shame that it will be too far away for you to visit.

I consider myself very lucky indeed to live so close to a beautiful coastline (even if it is cold most of the time).

The attraction for me is the sounds, the smells and the desolation at this time of year Lucky. I can hear the waves crashing when I lie in bed and can see the sea from my bedroom window (well I could do if the glass wasn't all salted up) . It's my favourite place to be alone with my thoughts.

I too love visiting the coast but I have to say the landscape on Shetland depresses me no end. I couldn’t stand all that wind and cold.

Going over to the Isle of Wight from Lymington on a sunny day is just stunning IMO.

I pine for the sea. I was brought up near the sea and feel its loss very deeply. I was watching Shetland and felt like crying at the sight of the wonderful seascapes. It is weird how deep it goes. What is the attraction of the sea I wonder?

Too far to travel farview , so pleased for them though.
