Regrets, I’ve had a few

Enjoying my second brew of the morning I got reminiscing, prompted by the “Becoming an adult” thread and looking back at my 70 years, was thinking what I regret and whether the is too late to change.
I have come to the conclusion that being brought up to be a bit too “good” (never a rebel, always aiming to please) I have been too complaisant all my life.
I actually looked it up as I was afraid I was confusing the word with “complacent” (which I am not)

What, if anything, do you regret?
And short of just being a GOW-grumpy old woman- is it too late to change?

only one regret ,it doesn't affect anyone else and nobody else knows about it .It does niggle at me most day though but theres nothing that could ever change the action or the result .

I regret nothing - not a jot.

There are things I might have/ could have/ should have done differently maybe but every choice I made led me to this place.

I like where I am in my life, who I am and ultimately how things turned out.

As I can change nothing from my past - there's little point in regretting what you cant change. Move on - look forward - learn from your choices.

That's how I feel.

Can you change an ingrained behaviour? Depends how badly you want to i think.

I have many regrets but for this most part I’ve learned not to dwell on them. That way madness lies.

Good one, DanniRae. Thanks Heavens for the Pill, eh!

I don't think I regret anything looking back. I was pregnant at 16 and married just after my 17th birthday - we grew up with our sons while others were out clubbing and drinking but don't feel we missed out on that. If there's anything it's probably that I've spent so many years working alone I have no friends to spend time with and also that I've always been so indecisive. Too late to change anything now and no point dwelling on what might have been!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
KatyK that is very true.

I think I was very complaisant as a child - perhaps girls of my generation were expected to be that way.

If anything, I should have gone with my instincts and not hesitated and worried about what could go wrong - I should have had the courage of my convictions.

When I was in the sixth form my persona tutor and maths teacher suggested after A-levels I take a year out and travel around the world as a croupier! I've always rather regretted not taking her advice...

No regrets, not that I didn't make mistakes, but everyone does that.

Whatever was expected of me, and I do not think complaisance was, It would have been a doomed expectation anyway. I was always considered the awkward and difficult one, who would always have her say. I haven't changed much.

Thanks Blinko for your kind comment! My dad would have gone crazy if I had stepped off the straight and narrow. I am sure of that shock

Blinko Tue 20-Mar-18 17:24:49

Mine too, DanniRae

I have no real regrets at all. I am happy with my life as it is so I can't regret my decisions.

I do agree about the complaisance mostly expected of girls of our generation though.

My only real regret is I didn't divorce earlier. I didn't realise how happy I could be until I'd left. However I did get my beautiful children from that relationship and they are wonderful to me. I'm happier now than for a long time, it's never to late to change some things

No regrets. I have had a good life.
