It is, isn't it? So, if I am less than sympathetic to a celebrity, well, I may have my reasons.
My daughter was driving herself to chemo at the time, because there was nobody else, no relatives (apart from me - at work) and no support for her.

To say I was furious was an understatement, to be honest..

But that’s the point MissA. You were not in your daughter’s shoes, only she truly knows how bad she felt about the chaos she caused. But because you, as a mother, had insight into your daughter’s actions and you may be able to understand what Ant will be feeling now.

My daughter would be far more understanding of poor old Ant, but then she was a nicer person than me, and more forgiving.

Alcohol affects thinking, I don't mean just when drunk, over a period of time it changes the way a person thinks, drunk or sober. The chemicals damage the brain.

It will never go all together Nannylovesshopping. My cousin has lived in Londonia for over 30 years and whilst the southern twang has crept in, she reverts straight back to Geordie when she comes back home.

Despair can do all kinds of things to your mind.
Of course, it's ideal not to drink whilst on chemo but who knows what someone may be thinking at the time?

But I agree, driving after drinking is inexcusable, particularly as Ant could afford a chauffeur-driven car.

Doctors can only advise someone who is alcohol dependant to notify the DVLA, they have no duty to inform. The alcoholic, on informing the DVLA then has to surrender their licence. They have to wait a year, then prove they are no longer dependant before being granted a temporary (annually renewable) licence. It appears they have to be caught drinking and driving before alcoholics can be legally stopped from driving.

I can’t imagine anyone alcohol dependant volunteering to give up their passport though.

Is Ant an alcoholic though ? Or just someone who drinks heavily and got caught drunk driving ?

How do you define an alcoholic? A person who reaches for the bottle as soon as they wake up. A person who reaches for the bottle to ease torturous thoughts?

Maybe Ant just had alcohol left in his bloodstream from the night before? I've heard of several people caught out by this.

Its something to be aware of if you're a driver.
I'm sure a lot of people are over the limit after a late night out when they're behind the wheel the next day.

In my own mind I would have defined an alcoholic as someone who is dependant on alcohol to get through the day, but I think even once you give up drinking you would still be an alcoholic as would be forever craving another drink whether you have one or not.

So I really don't know.

I don't think that Ant should get any special treatment just because of who he is, likewise the Sunderland footballer (Darren Gibson) also recently caught drink driving.
