Drink driving inexcusable. Big publicity about the dangers of mixing drugs-even just painkillers with alcohol. If I tried to tell my son not to do anything he would definitely argue with me and trying to physically take his car keys . . . No chance! Ant needs the same punishment as any other drink driver. All the same I’ll miss their cheerful faces.

Never watched them although aware of who they are (can't avoid it with most celebrities) but I do feel sympathy for a man who is on a slippery slope and whose personal life has fallen apart too, and all under the gaze of the media who will print anything in order to get attention.

I really admired Frank Skinner, who presents Room 101. He openly talks about his alcoholism and how he fought it. Apparently he ended up sleeping rough but hasn’t had a drink in decades.

He’s an inspiration to others. Likewise Anne Robinson.

Incidentally I was in a restaurant few years ago with ant and Dec and they were out with their family kept low profile and at in corner however some pop,e went over and they shook their hands and the lads were lovely Different situation but just thought I'd say .

He's a Geordie man. It comes with the territory. There are heaps of similar men out drinking every weekend in the Toon. Just because he's made lots of money doesn't mean he can escape a cultural heritage that goes back generations!
Seiously no-one comes out of this well. The family will obviously get a big payout. He's gone back to rehab. His mum must feel she let him down.
As for what will happen to Ant and Dec it never fails to amaze me how those two manage to re-invent themselves. Perhaps it will lead to them doing more serious work on addiction or family trauma. Who knows?

I like Ant and Dec and loved their Geordie sense of humour. They made a good double act and will be interesting to see how things now work out for Dec....can a double act ever become a single act? ...not sure if it can. As for teaming Dec up with someone else remains to be seen.

Happened about 400 yards from our house. It's a small but busy roundabout. Living so near, I am rather relieved our family were at home having a long lunch with us. He could have taken out small pedestrians on their way to the local playground or for a walk along the river.
Absolutely stupid to drink drive in a populated and busy area, or indeed anywhere. He is lucky not to have killed someone.
P.S His car was still on the side of the road when DH went out to buy the paper yesterday!

Yes harrigran I know what you mean. I work in Washington and was born in gateshead totally different accents. So I'm a proper Geordie and proud . I do hope he gets the help that is needed and so sorry for the family he crashed into such distress .

So do I! An older man I worked with at my first job would greet all the young girls with 'Mornin' Pet'. It was lovely - I can hear him still, fifty years on.

Over paid nit wits, there are plenty of replacements and they have made their money. Time for a new set.

Ant and Dec are both decent people. They were the only reason I would watch 'Celebrity get me out of here'. They were very funny. Ant's marriage had gone wrong, no excuse to drink and drive but people are fallible, they make mistakes. He will be very upset that a child may be injured I'm sure.

Just to go a little off-piste.....these Ant & Dec characters have been compared to Morecambe & Wise!?!

And as for the claims that Ant has been "under tremendous pressure", well no he hasn't. If he'd been working for Carillion and then suddenly found his employer had gone bust leaving him with no job, no money to pay the mortgage and bills, and the only assistance being given by the DWP was to "contact your local JobCentre" then THAT would be real pressure.

Re Geordie men comment. My SiL is a Geordie. He's kind, hard working, generous, handsome, a lovely husband and father, and really funny too. Wonderful.

I do think we find more sympathy for celebrities who suffer from addictions than we do for the average person. Especially those celebrities that have sadly died prematurely from their addictions. Whilst we've a tendency to look down our noses a bit at other more 'ordinary people'. And yet the celebrities are the ones that seem to have the least excuses/reasons. They seem to have everything going for them and lives most of us envy. Marriage breaks up, whilst just as emotional for all people, must be much less stressful if you don't have to worry about affording somewhere to live and whether you are going to be able to put food on the table. Plus some of them seem to swallow prescription painkillers as if they are Smarties. And celebrities can afford the best help. So I'm actually feeling a little unsympathetic towards Ant. More because he was stupid enough to drink and drive. He could have got a taxi. Surprised his mother let him drive.

If that was you or me I suspect we would be jailed for being that drunk not sent for ‘help’! ?
