Common words from your childhood,that woukd have to be explained to your Grandchild.

Car indicators that flipped up by the drivers door. Hand signals for slowing down or turning left.

Quite a few of these would have to be explained to my children (now in their mid-forties), let alone my grandchildren!

Grumppa I dint think boys had liberty bodices but most (all?) Girls in the 1950s were forced to wear tgese garments over their vests in the winter. They were vet lije but thinker (a bit fleecy? ) with odd tapes running down the front and back and buttons at the bottom. My mother told me when she was a child (around 1910-1920) suspenders (for black stockings) were attached to the buttons. They were a more comfortable substitute for corsets hence the 'liberty' bit.

I had one, didn't like it much but was warm. They had rubber buttons so as not to break them when going through the mangle!

Candlewick bedspread

Spot the Ball, reel to reel tape reorder, radiogram, paraffin heater, chilblains, stone pig....oh the list could go on and on!

FarNorth We had candlewick bedspreads when I was little but we called them 'counterpanes'. Strange word!

Coal scuttle

Combinations. I'm not old enough to have worn them but I do remember an old lady we knew wearing them... a sort of cosy 'onesie' - an item of underwear with a handy aperture for visits to the loo!

Some liberty bodices had tapes instead of buttons. The tapes went through a loop at top of stockings and were tied in a bow.
