Packing things away in boxes today, second box I got the packing tape ready but can't find the scissors - unpacked the box (groan) not in there, repacked the box, moved the boxes, checked under the table - even checked the hall in case they had decided to go for a stroll, can't be in the first box because I used them to cut the packing tape across the top of the box. So any ideas where they went? No-one else in the house that I can blame either confused

Buy a new one, the old missing one will be sure to turn up.
Doesn’t matter what it is.

Lizzypopbottle No I don't have a dog, just a husband but I don't think he would do that ... or maybe he would ...
Overthehills I don't have an old Next Catalogue. There's probably an Argos one somewhere. Will that do?

Gabriella
Anything you lose is always found in the last place that you look.

No - it's usually in the first place you looked but it wasn't there then!

pam Ditto but also pens, and a box of sewing needles when mending things! This rule applies even if you do not move from the spot!!

I keep finding 'thingies' that look as if they may belong to something but have no clue what.
They're all in a drawer somewhere, everyone welcome to come and look to see if it one of their stray 'thingies.'

Oops gringrin
Ourkid - totally unreasonable, I stick an old Next catalogue under my missing ironing board foot.
When I left home my mother gave me her scissors. Oh the happy memories when the cry would go up “Who’s got the black scissors?” - I’ve still got them in the “useful pot” on my desk and they must be fifty years old if they’re a day. So you see, you’ve nothing to worry about, they’ll turn up eventually!

Thebeeb Sat 10-Mar-18 21:49:46

I know. It’s the magic fairy who puts the Smarties in the magic pot for my grandchildren. Needed them to open the Smartie packet.

lizzypopbottle Sat 10-Mar-18 20:56:43

OurKid1 Do you have a dog? My dog would sneak off very quietly with something like that and enjoy eating it in privacy.

Growing0ldDisgracefully Sat 10-Mar-18 20:04:18

I suffer similarly, usually scissors, Sellotape, glasses etc. There's clearly some sort of cosmic conspiracy, as they turn up later, in exactly the same place(s) I looked before and from where they were clearly missing. I thong they have some sort of invisibility capability, which increases in relation to my stress level!

OurKid1 Sat 10-Mar-18 19:54:11

PS It's not unreasonable to buy a whole new ironing board because it's three-footed and annoyingly wobbly is it?

OurKid1 Sat 10-Mar-18 19:52:52

While you're all looking, one of the rubber feet thingies came off one of the legs on my ironing board while it was in the cupboard. I've searched the cupboard thoroughly, giving it a good clear out in the process and it's just not there! Not on the kitchen floor, even in that dusty bit behind the fridge, and the ironing board never goes anywhere else ... unless it's up to something while I'm not looking. If anyone has a spare rubber foot thingy, I'll have it.

lizzypopbottle Sat 10-Mar-18 18:38:19

Go back and look again in the first place you looked. That's where they'll be. My address book was in the drawer I first looked in after I'd looked absolutely everywhere else!

One of my dad's oft repeated exhortations was, "Have you looked properly?"

Jalima1108 Sat 10-Mar-18 17:50:56

and apparently saying 'It's just a label, dear' is not the appropriate response
grin

Jalima1108 Sat 10-Mar-18 17:50:04

Right you lot!!

DH has lost the label to his new fruit tree. I haven't got it - honestly! - so where is it?
ps it's not in the recycling bin or anywhere else that he has looked

CardiffJaguar Sat 10-Mar-18 17:33:11

You've still got them, probably in a pocket!

Camelotclub Sat 10-Mar-18 17:30:34

gillyknits (do you?), you're being gaslighted!

Camelotclub Sat 10-Mar-18 17:29:56

It's tape measures that go AWOL in our house, and it's only me and DH. if DH has been using something it generally vanishes.

Jalima1108 Sat 10-Mar-18 17:17:49

grin

Oopsadaisy12 Sat 10-Mar-18 17:03:33

With my luck I’ll come out 2 feet shorter but the same weight, and with short hair!

Oopsadaisy12 Sat 10-Mar-18 17:02:37

Jalima it’s a well known phenomena that upon reentering a portal items do indeed shrink. I’m thinking of going through one myself to test the theory.

Jalima1108 Sat 10-Mar-18 17:00:48

That must be what happened to my engagement ring which went missing for many months then reappeared.

The strange thing is that during that period in space-time it appears to have shrunk.

M0nica Sat 10-Mar-18 16:49:56

They have disappeared through a hole in the continuum of time and have now reappeared through another rent in the time continuum that coincided with your box of DVDs.

Farrsan2003 Sat 10-Mar-18 16:47:41

In my case the answer would be round my daughters house. Everything I lose usually appears there!! xxx

gillyknits Sat 10-Mar-18 16:37:56

My husband is like yours Diggindoris, Many times I have taken something out of a drawer to use and been sidetracked (multitasking!). Going back to said item only to find it’s gone. DH has tidied up and put it back in the drawer.
I sometimes wonder if he’s trying to make me think I’m going mad!

HillyN Sat 10-Mar-18 15:54:59

We definitely have a 'black hole' in our house that sucks random items into oblivion. We have a large box of Scalextric track pieces in the spare room but can't find the cars, the power unit or the controllers. DH has searched everywhere, including the loft, but no sign of them. So do we throw the track out? DH says we should but I know that as soon as we do the 'black hole' will reverse itself and the other parts will reappear. confused
