Wedding Albums

After a busy week decorating bedrooms and having a big clear out I came upon my wedding album of 1978. It survived the test of time but sadly the husband didn't ( I was traded in for a new model some 13 years ago now). In my early grief I remember I was once going to throw the thing in the North Sea but was persuaded by a SIL to hold onto my history. I am now happily remarried to a lovely man and staring at this album in front of me now holds nothing but bad memories, as my ex was always a bit of a 'Jack the Lad' type character and it took the discovery of his affair to finally remove my blinkers. Question is what should I do with this album? What have others done with them when they have been in a similar situation to me? Is it now time for it to be thrown into the depths of the sea or will my adult children see it as their history too, to be retained?

In these days of easily deleted digital photos I think it is worth hanging onto old albums/photos for history's sake. I am always fascinated by old photos of my grandparents.

I have no wedding photos as it was Registry Office with only both sets of parents there. I cooked a casserole for lunch! We then took MIL and FIL home where they had arranged a surprise party with relatives I did not know. My now ex was so drunk I had to climb over him, 6 months pregnant to get to bed! We then went to visit my parents where for the first time, we were allowed to share a bed! Still no photos. I may have to write an autobiography to allow my DC to experience their family history!

Overtthehills, Mehimthem, I did feel a pang of envy when I read your posts. Had my marriage not ended in divorce I probably would not think twice about the photos now other than to have a good laugh with my family at the fashions and formal poses. It's something I will never be able to do now as it still gives me a painful twang to look at them. I agree with you Grandma2213 about how precious an actual photo from the time will probably be for future generations to see.
