Have you tried turning the thermostat down, especially if you have a boiler thermostat? Or resetting your room thermostats if you have them?

I'm with your husband I hate wearing all those clothes round the house. My heating is on all day 20 when I'm moving about 22/23 when I'm sitting down. Sod the bill I'll go without something else if I have to.

Presumably your OH contributes to the household expenses and as a responsible adult I think he should be allowed to decide for himself what clothing is comfortable in the house.
Or are you the sole breadwinner/provider?

Because it has been so cold recently I have kept my heating on low overnight to save on frozen/burst pipes and on the whole I have been able to keep it at a constant 15C during the day and occasionally during the evening I turn it up to 18C. 23C would be too hot for me and I am well wrapped up.

It is a difficult one when each wants something very different.

I agree with you Travelsafar, my husband used to do this...drove me mad. Nowadays he spends a great deal of time in bed and asks for the heating to go off and an open window! Not sure I can win

I really don't like the feeling of central heating full on and the way it dries out the air. I far prefer to wear lots of layers and would rather the heating was off when we are in bed. DH is happy with the layers during the day but insists on keeping the heating on all night and I often find him asleep with the duvet pushed off.

No matter how many other layers I wear, I draw the line at wearing gloves around the house and it's my hands that seem to feel the cold more than the rest of me, so I allow myself the luxury of keeping the heating on at 20 - 21 and at night I leave the thermostat at 15. Sometimes it comes on, sometimes it doesn't.

Ours is around 20-21 and goes off at night and we never have the radiator on in the bedroom.

I’ve got a wonderful heated throw, the only problem is you don’t want to move once you’ve put it on. I have got the heating on low at the same time. My vest goes on as soon as it gets cold and stays on until it warms up. My husband went to work yesterday in a thermal vest and long johns and a fine figure of a man he looked too.......not

We have the thermostat set at 19°c during the day, but we do have the log burner on quite frequently. I turn the thermostat down to 15°c at night when it's frosty, or 12°c when it's milder. DH and I wear plenty of layers also. At present I'm wearing a roll neck thin top, a long wool sweater and a cape/poncho around my shoulders, plus my jeans, one pair of socks and thermal slippers.

I think I would just feel guilty about the waste of oil etc. if I had the heating up high and wore summer clothes in this weather.

Mr C also wears far less than I do - but he doesn't feel the cold. Currently I have at least three more layers than he is wearing. Our thermostat is usually set at 19 in the day if were at home, higher in the evening for my benefit. Usually the heating is off overnight, its been on for the last week with the thermostat at 15 or 16. I also was wondering why it's such as issue for you travelsafar, would your husband not be able to contribute to the fuel bill if it is very much higher than usual? Seems a shame to get so irritated about it.

I couldn't cope with all those layers. I'm wearing a thin long sleeved jersey top, skirt and undies, that's it.
I'm currentlly sitting in the lounge with the gas fire on (heating is only on for 3 hrs early morning and from 6 pm evening. I don't see the point of heating the whole house when were all in the lounge. Fortunately H is the same.

I wish we had a gas fire (no gas here). We have a wood burner, but if I had the choice, I'd now have a calor gas fire instead. Not so attractive looking may e, but instant heat in one room lovely.

We layer up a bit indoors, as oil expensive.

I'm also layered up, but don't feel the cold quite as much as I did when I was younger. Must be the extra layers of fat...

At the moment we have the heating on all day but not at night. However, my legs were still cold this afternoon so I put another pair of trousers over my (thick) leggings and I am lovely and warm. On top I have a t-shirt - tucked into my leggings/trousers and a long jumper. I look like the Michelin Man but I don't mind!!

Bare feet here! Just can't get on with shoes (or even slippers) indoors.

Body wise, jeans, t shirt and fleece. Feel ok, heating thermostat (room one) set to 20 when Mr P is looking, knocked down to around 15 when he isn't

Teetime, we are the same here, heating on day and night at the moment, 23/24 degrees, me with jeans, sweater, socks and slippers, DH trousers, short sleeved T shirt.
He refuses to be Trussed up, as he calls it.
Thank goodness he still works and we are able to pay for it, it must be costing us a fortune.... but it is nice to be toasty warm in a drafty house.

The reason i worry about the cost is that we are living off my savings, state pension and a little bit of a works pension.OH hasnt worked for many years and claims ESA as not retirement age yet so we are on a fixed income as such unless i can pick up a few hours each week as a carer.

Having just watched the News and seeing fireman going into a home where the cold water tank had frozen overnight and then burst flooding the house, I think you should at least leave some heating on at night at the moment, even if it’s only on 16/17 degrees

Hate to admit it, but DH has our heating on at 23 during the day all day and 20 at night! He does wear long sleeve shirts, thermal lined trousers and a pullover too, just feels the cold. Mind I am very pleased that he insisted on buying more coal a couple of weeks ago. So now we have a lovely glowing fire too! To be fair, he does pay the heating bills. ?

I can now understand your worry travelsafar. It sounds as if you need to budget carefully. I’m so sorry, no easy answer. If you’ve had a calm and straightforward conversation about this and your level of worry then to answer your original question no, I don’t think you are being unreasonable to be annoyed but please don't let this take your life over.

I don't think that we have a cold water tank any more.

If you have a combi boiler you will probably not have a cold water tank in the attic.
New system boilers do not usually require a cold water tank in the attic either.

If your boiler is older then you may still have one and it should be lagged. Any house that is properly insulated should not be warm in the attic anyway; if it is then it is losing heat through lack of insulation in the attic.

We're a heating on 24/7 house it's on 18/19 in the day but 15 at night, just enough to take off the chill but not warm enough to keep me awake.
