I wonder, if we asked very politely, whether GNHQ would tell us how many names are registered on GN, how many posted in the last week or the last month?

I'd like to know but I don't really expect to be told. Please prove me wrong.

Yes, I noticed the other yogogran recently, and agree it can be very confusing, especially if both yogo and yoga post on the same threads!
I do agree that it would be helpful if very similar names were flagged up when new members are choosing their username.

Long ago I used to be Gracesmum (Grace the greyhound) but then there was a Gracesgran and now GracesgranMk2 .
I too confused yogogran and yogagran!

No need to change it Bellasnana as you were the first Bella I met on Gnet grin

What I do find confusing is when posters change their username. Chances are it is someone I have already been chatting to, whose history I know.

Bellasnana Thu 01-Mar-18 16:58:26

It’s true. I wasn’t very imaginative with my choice of name, but had no idea there was already a ‘Bellesnan’. Then there is ‘Bellanonna’. All very confusing, but I’m not changing now.

Is Tegan2 the same as Tegan ?

BlueBelle Thu 01-Mar-18 16:52:36

Yes I think it does matter because if someone had a very very similar name but very very different opinions it could make it uncomfortable
I had another BlueBelle with I think it was a 1 which looked just like the l ( ell) but she was lovely and after I messaged her it got changed a bit I felt a bit bad doing as I m not a precious person and because I think it should be admins job to make sure names very very similar aren’t used it certainly wasn’t her fault and she was very sweet about it and I hope I didn’t make her feel bad either

I did notice yogagran!

wotnot I did wonder if you were wot and had changed your name to something similar but longer.

Nonnie Thu 01-Mar-18 16:39:12

I think for a while there was another Nonnie but does it really matter? Some years ago we had a person who used to take notes about all of us so it might have confused her but I don't know enough about any of you to get you confused!

Luckygirl Thu 01-Mar-18 15:56:31

There is a luckygirl (me!) and a luckylegs - but it has only caused confusion on a couple of occasions I am glad to say.

Hello there luckylegs! smile

To stick to a theme how about Topnot, or Youknowwhat,
Or add a number to wotnot

wotnot Thu 01-Mar-18 14:17:34

Yes, yogagran, I'm a newcomer and shortly after I made my first post I found that wot already used that name. True wot and wotnot are not the same, but very similar. I apologised to wot, but may be I need to come up with something new.
My mind's a total blank hmm

janeainsworth Thu 01-Mar-18 14:00:58

Yes I thought of you yogagran when someone with a very similar name to yours posted yesterday.
You would think when someone registers, something on the GN computer would flag up if their proposed name was very similar to someone else’s.

Bridgeit Thu 01-Mar-18 14:00:27

Oh. I hadn’t noticed yogaGran, but if that’s the case perhaps we could suggest, a mark 1, mark 11, addition (much like a car) I think I might like turbo charged!

yogagran Thu 01-Mar-18 13:52:44

I do understand that GN has expanded over the time that it's been going but I'm disappointed to see that we now have new people joining with almost identical usernames. I have no suggestions or solutions but just feel a bit aggrieved - that's all hmm
