Anyone else saving up for a light bulb?

Allegedly light bulbs now last for 10 years, I may not last that long myself, can I get a rebate. Maybe I will leave them to people in my will

Dimmable ones are more expensive than non-dimmable. Make sure that you aren't paying for something you don't need.

One of my spotlights in the kitchen blew last week. I managed to find these in my local Homebase for £1. They had another larger size too for the same price.
Think they are selling them off cheap!!

I get confused with all the different types! Bayonet, screw, large small, candle, round, dimmable, wattage, etc. etc. etc. Oh for the time when you asked for a light bulb and that was it!!! (Ok off to book myself into the nearest funny farm as I have obviously lost the plot!)

Does anyone who fell for the trend of having lots of recessed ceiling lights actually LIKE them?

But the biggest scam is lights from 'Serious Readers'. A perfectly standard bulb, available everywhere for a few quid, plus something to hold it up. For HUNDREDS of pounds.

My pet hate are these so called energy saving bulbs. They were forced on us, and they are a rip off, they don’t last longer, and are ridiculously expensive. Grrrr

I bought some, expensive they were too, from Tesco last year. Candle shape. They have all blown but I didnt keep the receipt so can't take them back to complain. I shan't be getting any of theirs again. I picked up a two pack in Aldi recently, I think it cost only £3 or £4

I agree Oldwoman, it’s not just the price it’s the different types, sizes, shapes, dimmable or not etc.

We moved house recently and changed all of the halogen bulbs to LED . I could have taken out a mortgage to cover the cost of the new bulbs but the electrician told us that the bulbs we replaced were using as much power as an electric kettle.. I was groping around in the dark trying to avoid ‘putting the kettle on ‘ until I got them changed!

Our new LEDs are nearly two years old now and we haven't had to replace one, an electrician told us that they use all together the equivalent of only one of the old type bulbs they certainly save money for us after the initial outlay.

I had all new bulbs fitted over a year ago and haven't had to change them at all , the bulbs are a bit expensive but worth it

I want clear bayonet type candle bulbs 40w equivalent that don't take ages to light up. Don't understand what they all are now, can't find many clear ones; I need them for small chandellier type lights.

Found a 12w that gives off a 100w light. HOME BARGAINS. It's good for understairs cupboard/shed etc. Too ugly for anywhere else. £2.99.

Try on line with Screwfix, our 'golf ball' bulbs were £10 each in the shop where we bought the light fitting EEK! Half that price with Screwfix.

We're in the process of replacing all our lightbulbs with Philips Hue bulbs, we love the convenience of controlling them through Alexa.
However, even buying them from Amazon, which I've found to be cheapest, each one costs anywhere between £10 for the white and £38 for the colour changing, so it's going to be a long slow process changing them all.
Maybe we'll put them on our birthday and C*****mas present lists!

There are 15 spotlight bulbs in ceiling lamps at my house plus the normal bulbs in roses as well.

Utility warehouse, I've not heard of it but will investigate. Never thought of sctewfix but will look. Amazon, ebay all worth a look.

Fir years I had wall uplighters in my living room which had the bulbs positioned horizontally rather than vertically. They blew very frequently and even the old type bulbs cost a lot when replaced so often so I tried halogen ones but they also blew regularly. I eventually replaced the fittings to ones that take candle bulbs and started with halogen ones. Even though they were now positioned vertically they still blew quite frequently but since I replaced with LED's none have blown at all. They are much brighter too and use far less electricity so will hopefully pay for themselves over time. I plan to move before long and may take the LED's with me and leave some of my older type behind!

We have replaced all bulbs with LED now, so much better and brighter and last a long time.Agree that buying online is the cheapest option.

Haven't bought a light bulb for years. When they went over to the new ones our energy supplier sent us loads of them & I think we have enough to last us forever!

There are hardware outlets in my area and they are an Aladdins cave for every type of light bulb imaginable, Brand names but at a much lower price .

Recently moved into a new house where we have the latest LED ceiling lights in kitchen, orangery and all bathrooms. One went wrong recently but we discovered it was still under the 10 year warranty. Thank goodness as we had to get an electrician in to replace it (it was so complicated) and the 'bulb' alone would have cost £25. I don't look forward to replacing them all in 10 years' time as we have about thirty!
