Here we go again, a new Diana
(262 Posts)Megan Markle has been making secret visits to comfort the survivors of Grenfel Towers , just like Diana use to make secret visits !
If you had taken the time to read my post correctly, you would have seen the bit where I said I wasn't singling her out, it's the entire institution I was talking about. Y'know the bit where I said 'I'm not singling her out' may have been a clue? No? I'm very interested in this -ism you speak of, I'm not clear what you mean? The RF mean nothing to me, I gave an opinion, like it, lump it, it's my opinion <shrug>
Well let’s just think about this scenario, what would you who are so critical do IF you had been born a royal or to a well off family, would you hide away, give it away ,do away with your self because you felt so bad about being wealthy, not give a damn & spend loads & enjoy yourself. If we didn’t have a royal family & had a president instead do you think that would cost less or that it would ‘t cost anything to run a Presidency etc , yes it’s an unfair world, & in this country compared to a third world country we are wealthy beyond belief, we all commenting here have computers that allow us all to pontificate about others. Please do not be so spiteful about what you term a ‘ privileged life’ these royals do actually care & get involved , what else do you expect them to do ?They can’t be unborn !
Bored now.
really, why is that then?
It is not spiteful to believe the Windsors have a privileged life , it is a posters opinion on that lifestyle , could be said it's spiteful to call someone with a different opinion spiteful
Spitful = malicious, mean, nasty, cruel, unfriendly bitter, unkind, venomous, not quite the same meaning as having a different opinion ,all be it that that opinion could be spitefully worded.
By the way I’m not particularly a royalist, but I wish them well, It wouldn’t make my life any different if they were penniless & it’s great that they are involved with charities etc, I just don’t get the level of criticism that is levied at them .
What on earth is cruel in saying the Windsors have a privileged life, and I think most here know the meaning of spiteful, your post was unkind = spiteful in your own opinion
Day 6 I’m surprised you consider some of the barbed and unkind posts in here as mere ‘opinion’. Most, indeed probably all, the people I know are more than capable of expressing their opinion without resorting to such vitriol.
As are the majority of GNetters thankfully.
Do you really think men want to marry someone who resembles their mother, in character, (not looks).?
Who on here thinks they resemble their mum in law? Does Camilla resemble the Queen? Does Kate resemble Diana?
Let Megan be Megan. Give the girl a chance! She is nothing like Diana; she is mature and confident and she will be loved by her husband, unlike Diana.
OldMeg, your accusation that I started this thread to vent my spleen wasn't either barbed or unkind ? It was your opinion , perhaps a question as to why it was posted would have related to the post not the poster
annie your OP was a simple statement.
But you followed it up in subsequent posts with
1. A suggestion that Prince Harry wanted to turn Meghan into his mother.
2. A suggestion that Diana had ‘stabbed Fergie in the back’.
3. A suggestion that Kate might do the same to Meghan.
4. A reference to Diana’s eating disorder.
5. A statement that Harry has learned to ‘play to the camera’.
I find these suggestions not only unpleasant, but quite bizarre, so you shouldn’t be surprised if other posters are accusing you of unkindness and venting your spleen.
.janeainworth,
1. Does Harry want to turn her into his mother ? A question .
2. Diana stabbed fergie in the back, if the squidgy tapes still exist perhaps listen and hear her comments on fergie,
3. Related to the papers comparing Megan was like Diana
4. Diana had an eating disorder before she married a Windsor. True and I assure you as someone with an eating disorder this was not unkind, what was unkind was to blame it on her husband.
5. Harry loves the camera, his brother dislikes it
And this was venting spleen? Try my punctuation or spelling, posters like you get better luck with those when they want to be unpleasant
Megan Markle has been making secret visits to comfort the survivors of Grenfel Towers , just like Diana use to make secret visits !
Yes, Jane that is so, but if you look at the OP, it’s the repetition (used for emphasis) of the word secret and the use of the exclamation mark which actually turns what could be a ‘simple statment’ into something more.
Had the points you raised above never been made then I could accept the original post was made in ignorance of the implications, but taken as a totality I cannot accept it was made in all innocence.
The word secret was used of two people not one and I repeated what was said in the press review and in the papers.
As for your problem with my exclmation mark, have just said this is done by posters who want to be unpleasant. You have confirmed it which is a pity
Oh Annie. What Jane posted is fact not opinion and your defence of it rings of the old denial of "it wisnae me. A big boy did it and ran away."
Can you not see why your comments are being misinterpreted?
I am not. Responsible for how others choose to interprete things is their choice. Strange why my posts are getting all the criticism, I can guess
Well, I think MM will do just fine. I like seeing them on tv and will look forward to having a glimpse at the wedding . ?? ?
I am a republican who feels that the monarchy as an institution should have had its day by now. However, I feel some of the remarks about Diana, her children and Meghan Markle are spiteful.
I think most people accept that Diana was an emotionally damaged person with many issues - hence her eating disorder. Whether she had that eating disorder before marriage I don't know, but I certainly don't think being part of the royal family was likely to be the best environment for someone who so obviously needed security and affection.
Now her son Harry is getting it in the neck - and his fiancee. Perhaps she is just playing to a public audience but she may also be quite genuine in her concern for people - why not give her the benefit of the doubt for the time being?
Is the word 'Spiteful' just been invented? It's been so overused on this thread I'm beginning to think it must be.
Thank you Jayh for acknowledging my comments have been misinterpreted, I feel deliberately so though.
Diana did. have some kind of eating disorder before thee wedding, caused by stress. I remember she lost an awful lot of weight and they had to keep altering her wedding dress. I felt so sorry for her. She must have had her doubts - her sister told her she couldn't back out as her face was on all the tea towels. She was young and inexperienced, maybe she knew Charles didn't love her.
It's completely different for Megan, she has confidence, maturity and Hatty loves her. No comparison whatsoever. Now leave them alone for goodness sake.
If the point of the visits is to raise awareness or get more practical help for the families - as many Royal excursions are said to do - then it is hard to know why they would be secret. More useful, as someone else points out here, would be an investigation into why some of the families have not received the help or money they were promised. I still don't think someone who spends £50,000 on a designer ball gown for a photoshoot in a grassy park should be promoted as a champion of the poor until she has had a few years to get used to her new role which involves living a very luxurious and privileged lifestyle, but comes at a cost in terms of freedom, critical scruitiny and pressure.
