Hardly ever, it does not agree with my stomach. If I do have a drink it will be one particular brand of pink champagne as it gives less grief than red or white wine.
Royal Mail threatens to stop deliverys over dog attacks
I usually have one or two glasses at the weekend but rarely in the week. I do sometimes feel tempted in the week but as DH rarely drinks I don’t open a bottle for myself.
What about you.

OK fess up time!
Always share a bottle with DH on Friday, Sat & Sun evenings usually followed by a G&T or 2 ( have you tried Silent Pool gin!!??- it is amazing.)
Often have another bottle midweek but not every week.
A glass of wine if I go to theatre with friend- local theatre so not West End prices.(£10 a glass- not paying that!)
I like alcohol but it is not an addiction. When we go out to dinner I am happy to drive & not drink. We did dry January last year with no problem but I don't see the point of depriving yourself if you like it & are in control.
When GC are staying over I limit myself to one glass.
This maybe more than guidelines but I am happy with it- if DH away on business I don't drink alone- it is a social thing.
Lucky you annifrance in more ways than one❗️ Go girl. ?
Well Urmstongran and Annesixty I will make it a hat trick - I have a glass of wine with my evening meal and (shock /horror) sometimes a G & T beforehand.
Living near Bordeaux in a wine region there are such excellent wines at very affordable prices and the culture over here is different. Very little binge drinking, just enjoying good wine as part of a meal.
Wonder if the tipplers like us are not posting as it now seems rather shameful to admit to having a few! As I am 75 years old and only drank the odd glass when working in the UK I hope to see a few more years yet.
We have a glass most days with dinner but as I have an alcoholic daughter aged 52 I am well aware of the dangers . Never touch spirits
Ah, glad to note that Anniefrance and others are now being honest. don't feel such a lush.
Oh gosh...I drink more than everyone is admitting to....hahaha Couple of glasses of red with my meal in evening or a small brandy that will last all evening sipping.
Up to quite recently DH and I drank 1 or two glasses of wine a night, with our meal, with two nights off a week. Now we only drink at weekendsFriday and Saturday nights, yes I do misss it , but we are sticking with it. - I do have emergency supplies if needed, but so far they have been left untouched.
I agree with you Dharmacat. Hence me posting ‘my walk of shame’! Oh dear.... We have an apartment in Spain & split our retirement between here and there, which is wonderful but we do have to be mindful, especially there. People on holiday, the sunshine, cheaper alcohol compared to here.... we definitely need our 2 days off each week.
I've not been able to drink the last year os so because of medication.
To be honest the only thing I have missed is the taste of Baileys, not missed the actual alcohol at all.
Well, hands-up. Wine is a daily pleasure for us. One medium glass with dinner every night and a smaller one later. We rarely have anything earlier in the day.
I don't think it is a bad thing to enjoy a glass of wine in the evenings, especially if had with a meal. In France people usually have wine with their dinner and, as far as I can tell, it rarely gets out of hand, people drink sensibly. Having got to be almost 63 years old I must be doing something right! My granddaughters bought me 6 bottles of wine for Christmas. We had one with Christmas dinner, one at New Year (between five of us) and I used the last bit of the last bottle in Spag Bol last week (yes, some of the other bottles went into cooking (Beef Stew etc) as well, especially the French wine they bought me). As to people not drinking years ago - it was very common for men to call in at the pub before going home in many communities, or to pop out for a pint or two in the evenings - wine generally wasn't available then but beer, stout and guinness certainly were, I remember being told by my Aunts that I should drink a bottle of stout a day when I was pregnant for the iron content!
High days and holidays lately. I used to have a glass nightly but I do feel much better for not drinking now.
Well I'm joining the lush camp here. I can't wait for DH to get home from work so we can sit down together with a glass of red wine. He's not a big drinker but I might well pour myself another small one after dinner
I only drink red wine these days, while cooking. I make it a rule to wait till five, but must admit I am often waiting for five! A couple of small glasses, and I can tell when I have had enough...often leave a small amount in the bottle, rather than finish it off. Never drink with the meal or afterwards.
Occasional social drinking at other times with family, but OH doesn't drink wine, so I am usually a solitary drinker. Suits me.
I enjoy a glass of white wine with my evening meal most evenings, other than that I dont drink spirits. We do have a few wine free evenings too.
Virtually never these days, in fact make that never, not at all. I can't understand all the fuss about wine - I've accepted the odd glass too many times in the past 'just to be polite' and I've rarely found one that was as lovely as supposed.
I prefer beer now, a nice light lager type but then not every week. I put more out for the slugs and I'll drink the small amount that remains. I can be perfectly obnoxious when I'm sober!
Like others in France, I enjoy wine often - the trouble is it only costs about 4€ to buy a bottle of good quality rosée.
I sometimes worry about it, but was relieved when last in the UK I went without for a week or so and didn't miss it.
Also had some medical tests recently and my liver etc is doing OK.
soldiersailor good to hear that someone actually likes Penderyn. DH was given a bottle of it by his sister. I had a glass, he had a glass; we both shuddered and he poured it down the sink!
How much you drink and what you drink is a cultural matter. The government tries to get a lowest common denominator for units consumed with respect to drink in order to help us maintain for its population the best health and social order. Drinking is in most communites a group social event not something to do alone.

In retirement one has to work out whats best in order to balance social against government advice
There is a lack of agreement between governments across the world with respect to their advice.

Drinking alcohol seems to increase the risk of all cancers.
below is some good advice of which the best is to drink with food and take a glass of water.

Finally have an annual blood test to check that kidneys, liver etc are all functioing in good health.
Not much
I have a small glass of wine each evening, a bottle will last me 5-6 days. When my GP asked whether I drank alcohol, I told her this and she surprisingly said it was good for me!
I have said every time this subject comes up that my favourite part of the day is having a glass or two of well chilled white while cooking the evening meal and watching the evening news. DH has 2 glasses of beer.
It used to be a bottle a night between us. Then it started creeping up so we stopped for a few weeks and now only Saturday and Sunday.
I must admit to missing it in the week but I needed to do something for my health and weight sake!
last time I drank wine was Christmas day ,my SIL had some lovely 40 year old French red and I had a glass of that.I do open wine for cooking but it lies in the bottle for days and then gets thrown down the sink ...although my OH drank tha half bottle that was left last week after making my stroganoff which is a slow cooked version in wine .I do have the odd brandy either on its own or in coffee but not recently as I'm on meds for a herniated disc and I'd rathere have the painkillers than the booze .
