Ironing

One reason for ironing knickers and underpants is that it sterilises them.Unless you do them on a very hot wash germs may still be there.Otherwise not ironing is quite sensible given we all have a lot of other things to do.

Oh dear I'm afraid I rather like ironing, find it rather therapeutic ironing out all those creases. Either put on some music, television or a talking book and it's soon done.

I'm with the positive ironing brigade. Don't mind it at all and, if there's a particularly captivating film on the box, I hardly notice. I think you 'drip dry' believers do yourselves a disservice with your appearance. No, not awful but 'could look better'. At the end of the day it simply bemuses me but I'd never give up the splendid company of my pals for something cosmetic. No sirree. Another bonus for me is the gorgeous sensation of slipping in between newly ironed sheets. Bliss.

Have to be in the mood and I will even iron tea towel's. My sheets and pillow cases are 100%cotton so I do like to iron them. Late DH would always iron his own shirts Wonder why?

i don't iron anything. when my children were young they had a clean shirt every day and my husband had one every day too. that meant 16 shirts to be ironed on a sunday night as well as everything else. since i left my husband and the children grew up and left home i haven't needed to iron anything so i don't.
if you fold sheets etc straight off the line and dry tops and trousers on hangars on the line then they have no creases. i bought a new iron and ironing board about 10 years ago and i think it's been out about half a dozen times.

I never iron. I have beautiful white pure cotton seersucker duvet covers and my husband wears shirts which do not need ironing.

I ironed nothing at all!

I have to take a tablet each week which means me standing for an hour afterwards so I use that time to do the ironing, put the radio on and away I go, everything but sheets and socks.

Paddyann so sorry for your daughter, life must be difficult for her. Why is it the nicest people seem to suffer most ?

I don't iron fitted sheets but pillow cases and duvet covers look and feel better when ironed. I hate the thought of ironing but once I start, I'm a perfectionist. When DS1 was a young chef, I did iron his whites for him, but nowadays, no longer a chef, he irons his own clothes and some of his children's school uniform as well. DS2 shares the ironing with his partner who (imho) irons far too much - like the boys things which tend to be back in the washing machine ten minutes after they put them on! Summer clothes, being largely cotton need more ironing than winter ones.

The Wonderful Man lives up to his name and does his own ironing. [smug emoji]
However, I do all the household ironing; bedding, tablecloths etc. and my own things. I just can't wear non-ironed clothes no matter how few creases they have; I will know they weren't ironed and will feel scruffy.

Paddyann, I'd do the same in your shoes.
I'm don't particularly like ironing but I love freshly ironed bed linen. Also, I couldn't wear unironed cotton tops etc.

Christinefrance she has Fibro,hyper joint mobility syndrome,polycystic ovaries and multiple other stuff.She spends much of her life in bed,has 3 children and a husband who works away most of the week.She appreciates every little thing anyone does for her and I wish that I could fix much more than her ironing .If I believed in God I'd pray to him but I cant believe one exists who lets someone suffer as she does ...she's the nicest kindest young woman you could ever hope to meet

I am considering getting a tumble dryer simply to cut out all ironing!
I do have an ironing board set up in my little bedroom for pressing as I go along with sewing .

I never understood ironing and stopped it as soon as kids stopped wearing school uniforms. Ex did his own, or not as the case might have been ;-))
I think my body warmth smooths out any creases pretty quickly.
I do understand the crisp bed linen thing though but prefer my own sheets to smell of fresh air after drying on the line. Ironing seems to kill that freshness. I even hang my pyamas and towel outside every morning.

I'm another one that likes ironing and I couldn't bear to sleep in a bed with unironed pillowcases

I give lots of things a good shake when they come out of washer to try and get rid of most creases which often works,
I must have my bedding ironed and my pillow cases its a must to have crisp looking bedding but beyond that most items get hung and dried flat if need be.

Hate and loath ironing!

All cotton Sheets and quilt covers go on a 3 weekly basis to a very nice ironing company together with any shirts or smart trousers.
The rest goes straight on hangers.

Had my fill of ironing
DH shirts, my blouses, Children's school uniform etc etc and my late father's ironing.

I hate ironing but like the results, I'm afraid I pay to have my ironing done but actually it's just my husbands clothes as he has a penchant for weird shirts, I do mine as I need it. His work stuff doesn't need ironing but every three months I get all his done and he has loads more clothes than me.

Love ironed bed linen and I think it’s worth doing for that wonderful smooth sweet smelling fresh bed. My grandmother who had 11 children and precious little luxury in her life called a freshly made up bed “the only free luxury I have”.
On the other hand, my lateMiL used to fold up the sheets and sit on them?

I've never liked ironing and I stopped doing it altogether about 5 years ago. I do make sure I hang everything on the washing line or on an indoor line as soon as the washing cycle is finished, but I find that body heat tends to 'iron' out any small creases. I have also been known to hang creased items in the shower or use an attachment on a steam cleaner, but this is literally once or twice a year. I still have an iron and ironing board at the back of the cupboard 'just in case' but they've not seen the light of day for years!

I have a rich friend who installed washer,drier and irong board on top floor of her house where her children slept. Once they got to about 15 they were in charge of their laundry! Mine all learnt to iron when they were about 15, why not? I don't mind doing it as long as the pile isn't too large! I iron most things but not underwear socks or towels.

Sometimes I like to iron, other times I don't. It really depends how much there is to do, though now I don't work full time, I can spread it out a bit, so it's not such a chore. I don't iron towels,tea towels (except linen types) or socks, bras, but everything else gets ironed as it makes it easier to store them in the cupboards if they are ironed. ?

My husband waited so long for me to iron his clothes that he started ironing them himself. Now he does much more ironing than I do - RESULT. I hate doing it!!
