My oldest son is known by all in his circle as Jungle so I am known as Jungle’s mum.

My second son invented his own nicknames and for a while I answered telephone calls for someone called Stag! Then he left home and reinvented himself once more (he was an aspiring rock musician of course) and he came Cain. Very odd to meet a new girlfriend and her mum and hear them talking about this character called ‘Cain’ ... then the penny dropped! When we had to dash to the A&E in a London hospital it took me several attempts to discover which of his names had been used to admit him - I had no idea what name his companions knew him by. In the end it didn’t matter. At his funeral you could tell how all this strangers knew him by which name they called him by. All very surreal!

We have a friend called Peanut because of the shape of his head, very narrow when you face him but long front to back when viewed from side. Another friend, died a couple years ago, was Nobby Clark.
Know a Whacker, real name Ernest, no idea where his nickname comes from though.

Wingnut - because that was the shape of his head and ears.

I seem to remember many people having a nickname when I was wee, but hardly anyone seems to have one nowadays. Some I remember hearing about were;

The Exorcist (because when he came to your house, all the spirits disappeared)

Vimto ( because nobody liked him)

Two Soups ( because his name was Campbell Baxter)
