We’re a bit ahead in time here and I’ve just made OH tea. Lamb chops, mixed salad leaves, beetroot and home made coleslaw. I’m going to have kippers on toast later. Sometimes both of us struggle for ideas so what are you folks planning to eat tonight ?

I just bought the mumsnet cookbook called Top Bananas! Because my daughter in law makes some lovely easy family meals from it. So tonight I’m trying out Salmon espanol.
I have lots of cookbooks but rarely use them so I’ll see how this one goes!!

Are you all carnivores? Is seems as if the majority are. I wonder if the percentage will be lower in the next generation of Grans?

Just asking,---- I've lived abroad for many years, and now I'm back and wonder why supper/dinner is called "tea"?

Charleygirl Wed 24-Jan-18 11:50:35

It may depend what part of the country the OP lives. I call my evening meal which I have around 7.30pm-8pm supper.

On Wednesdays and Thursdays we eat lightly to prepare for the weekend. It's always soupanabun (soup and a hot cross bun with extra toast for the DH).

nina mentioned doing a meal plan before doing the supermarket shop. I do that too, do there?

I used to laugh at people who have the same thing on the same day every week but realise that we do too.

I shop on Thursdays so:

Thursday - fish
Friday - Steak
Saturday - a stirfry or frozen pizza or something from the freezer
Sunday - roast or casserole
Monday - cold roast or an Italian omelette, fritters or the like.
Tuesday - something batch cooked so I can freeze some of it.
Wednesday - something previously frozen.

How boring are we or me? blush

At this stage could be anything for tea often referred to as dinner or possibly supper. The weather is wet and miserable so might have to be something hot and comforting.

Not sure- I took meat of some sort out of freezer this morning but as I forget to label it when I brought it back from butchers, until it defrosts I have no clue what we will be having- quite a nice surprise hopefully. It is looking like maybe chicken quarters or pork fillet at the moment

A nice warming pan of scouse with beetroot made this morning and finished off by hubby to-morrow for his lunch served with crusty bread.
Fresh fruit for me and cheese and biscuits for his lordship.

Kidney ragout

A James Martin recipe, soooo easy and flavoursome. A stewy type thing, bacon lardons browned with some red onion, add diced carrots, cook a while add stock, borlotti beans and finely chopped cabbage or kale.
Top with a grilled pork chop.

Chicken casserole (free-range chicken), roasted sweet potatoes, cabbage, cooked by husband.

maryhoffmann37, I am a carnivore but don’t buy battery reared meat and not much red meat.

Home made beef and vegetable chilli with rice.

Patsy70 Wed 24-Jan-18 13:32:33

You're making me hungry! I usually decide either the night before or in the morning. As OH has a sore throat I've put lots of veg in the slow cooker and will blitz for soup, with home made bread!

tanith Wed 24-Jan-18 13:43:24

Beef stew in the the slow cooker full of tasty veg and a little beef ?

sweetcakes Wed 24-Jan-18 13:57:00

grandtanteJE65 Wed 24-Jan-18 13:59:18

meat balls and boiled cabbage in white sauce

Kim19 Wed 24-Jan-18 14:06:45

Chicken casserole with dumplings for me. Straight from Tesco bargain shelf.

EllenT Wed 24-Jan-18 14:11:06

Haddock on top of spinach, covered with cheese sauce then baked. Mash on the side, pate and toast before or after. Trying to eat less meat but tend to run out of ideas for things which DH considers a proper meal....

I cook in bulk and freeze so tonight Aubergine bake for me and chicken curry and rice for H and DS..always know the night before or early a.m what we are having..think most of us in Lancashire say 'tea' but if friends are coming I tend to get posh and say dinner ?

VIOLETTE Wed 24-Jan-18 14:32:01

Lamb stew (made a huge batch and froze several portions !) crusty bread, maybe something lemony for pud .....should really use up the home made tomato sauce from yesterday ....I used the quantity I needed for last night's dinner and put the rest in a bowl covered with foil to cool before freezing ....my husband (who has Parkinson's with vascular dementia) went into the kitchen to fee the cats (their dinner on side, covered with saucers in their bowls !) .....guess what ....when I went to get the tomato sauce to put in the fridge prior to freezing .....there was only a spoonful left ....'What have you done with my tomato sauce' I asked him ......then I saw it ...............yes he had fed the cats a bowl of tomato sauce each and their dinners were still on the side covered up .........................needless to say they were looking extremely puzzled (not to mention hungry !) ......oh dear just another day with the PD bless him ! grin

Blue45Sapphire Wed 24-Jan-18 14:49:12

Home made beef burgers in a bun with fried onions and a few fries on the side. I usually decide the day before as I normally have to get things out of the freezer to thaw. For instance I have just got some chicken thighs out for tomorrow as we are having chicken tikka.

womblekelly Wed 24-Jan-18 15:06:22

I menu plan for the week so tonight bang bang chicken and then tomorrow haggis etc as it’s burns night

Rosiebee Wed 24-Jan-18 15:17:05

Last week I made a batch of "mince" [ cooked with carrots, onions and oxo] and froze it, so tonight we'll be having one of the tubs of mince with some dumplings, green beans and leeks -yum. Love having home made meals in freezer that we can have with lots of fresh veg. I really hate waste so will use up extra veg in soups. I've thrown out food in the past so at the beginning of this year I bought an extra diary to help to plan meals for week. So far ..... hmm

Jamie's Gurkha Chicken Curry. It's been marinating overnight ready to cook in oven later. This is the only Oliver recipe that's ever worked for me and beats all other curries.
