I remember being in my big black pram with the hood up. I could see mum's hands on the handle and two leather buckles which held a shopping basket. I was grumpy and mum went into a shop and came out with a packet of biscuits. She opened them and gave me one. I also remember being in my cot which was painted blue. I was rocking it from side to side, trying to tip it over so I could get .

I remember being in my pram too - I loved it! I was very sad when a friend of my father's came and cut it up to use the chassis and wheels for something. I hadn't got a clue why he would want it and just stood and watched. I presume it was going to be used to make a "soap box car" for his child, but I was too young to even have seen one!

Falling over in the garden and cutting my knee. I was two and it was my sisters 9th birthday party. I also remember when I was 3 and my mother having afternoon naps because she was pregnant and I would sit and play on the floor. For some reason I also remember the death of Queen Mary when I was 3 and a half.

I remember that in the late 1940s small children were given a lot of strange dietory suppliments - cod liver oil, calcium powder, very sweet orange syrup and malt "virol". I don't know whether these were supplied by the government or by mums.

I didn't like any of them and protested a fair bit, espicially about the cod liver oil, but I suppose I should be grateful. Mum said it would make me grow big and stronh. She was right about big!

I remember being in my high chair eating tablet (fudge) which had not set with a spoon. (one of mum's culinary disasters). I had to finish it quickly before daddy got home. That would be 1950-51 when I suspect sugar has hard to come by.
I clearly remember our "kitchen" during the Coronation (I would have been 4). There were rows and rows of dining room chairs and the place was packed with neighbours watching the TV. I retreated under the table as it was too much to cope with. Thought I hadn't seen anything until I watched a documentary on the Coronation and I recognised the golden fairytale coach, it was not just something I had seen in a book on Cinderella after all.

My sister had had a tea set for her 4th birthday and wouldn't let me play with it. I was nearly 2. My Mum was going to bath me and had taken my clothes off and while she and my sister popped out to the garden to pin nappies on the line I toddled over to the back door and wiggled the bolt shut. I then toddled to the cupboard, got out the tea set and sat on the floor pouring out 'tea'. Much banging at the door. This is the part I remember - our neighbour climbed in through an upstairs window on hearing my Mum's frantic calls - I looked up with surprise when he came into the kitchen and saw him looming over me. I can remember him saying " Now you're for it!" All the rest of this incident was related to me.
Five months later when my brother was born I stayed with my Godmother. I can remember defying her over wearing a coat and trying to get my way by holding my breath, which, so I was told by my Mum, worked a treat with her. My Godmother ignored me and I can remember eventually taking a heaving breath and bursting into tears. I was put into the pushchair wearing said coat and being allowed to take my teddy. A man in a long while apron was opening one of those striped awnings over a shop front and said to me - still snivelling- that my teddy would get cold with no clothes on.

Sitting on the stairs breaking my heart because older brother and sister were going to the pictures with dad to see Bambi. I was 'too young'. I was 2.

Now I think about it, he took them on a day trip to the Scilly Isles, we were on holiday in Cornwall. By then I also had a younger brother and the 'little ones' were too young.

I realise now that he probably took the 'big ones' out to give my mother a break but I remember feeling so left out. Classic middle child I guess.

Vividly recollect crawling under GPS bed in hot pursuit of my sparking motorised crocodile. My Mum reckons I was 18 months when that happened.

I remember, when I was 2, escaping from our garden one sunny Sunday lunchtime to go and visit Mrs Culley who lived over the road. I was wearing a white smocked summer dress, and my dad came rushing over looking for me. My next memory is a cold wet day and my mum had the radio on ; she told me to be quiet, that she was listening to the princess's wedding. It must have been the Queen's wedding to Philip, and November 1947.

I have a vivid memory of sitting on a blanket, on a lawn, with my Mum and sisters when black clouds gathered and it became almost as dark as night. My Mum and sisters hastily gathered together the picnic we had been having and left me sitting on the blanket. I can recall the feeling of abandonment and fear. This was on Monday, 29 May 1944 and I was 2 days from being 9 months old. Obviously they came and got me but I can't remember any more after that.

I have found the date subsequently because there was a huge storm with a cloud burst and the small town further down the valley from where we lived (up near the moors) was badly flooded and three people drowned.

I remember being told by a grown up that I was a brave girl, sitting in a child's wicker chair receiving raisins (?) as a reward. I had just had a vaccination. I was about 18 months or 2 years old.

Also, a hear or so later my sister and I getting a siren suit each made of wool from Iceland. My father had been there on his submarine.

I remember sailing from Leith to Copenhagen on Gullfoss when I was two and Daddy taking me to the stoke-hold hatch to watch the engineers shovelling coke into the ship's furnace, and the blue blankets on the berths and sitting on a bench on the ship's aft-deck with Mummy watching the stern go up and down on the very rough sea.

And the floating crane, Herkules, in Copenhagen harbour and my grandmother and aunt waving to us from the shore as the ship docked.

My first memory is of sitting on the headmaster’s knee in his study tracing the red veins on his face with my finger. I was visiting with my mum before I started there, he was a friend of the family though and I was only 3/4yrs old

grandtanteJE65 Sun 21-Jan-18 12:15:52

I was afraid of teddy boys too, and I remember being told by an older girl that I should be, but not why.

Anyone who does remember what we thought was wrong about them, please tell me.

I remember being in my cot & my brother strapped my beautiful new shoes - burgundy patent - to the top of the bars so I could see them. Must have been around 2.

I remember sitting in my drop end pram with my white leather harness with lambs on. There are no photographs showing our family pram but I went on the internet and found an identical one. Family confirm pram was gone by the time I was two.

I have one vivid memory from watering the garden with a jam jar aged 3! My Dadwas in charge working in his shed. Inevitably I fell over! Quite a big cut on my arm, so Dad took me to the doctors ( I’m told I insisted on changing out of my “garden clothes” first! The doctor poured iodine over it which stung! I think poor Dad was quite upset! I still have the scar - 8 decades later!

I had always had a memory of being in my Mums arms and seeing open fields and hills. It was sort of dusky light. With this memory was a feeling of fear or anxiety. I had no idea what it was or how old I was until a few years ago I mentioned it to my Mum. She recalled an incident when we lived in a caravan in Scotland. My sister and brother aged 5 and 7 had gone missing. Dad and a neighbour were out looking for them. Mum had stayed behind because she was heavily pregnant and in case the kids arrived back. Mum said she remembered being very scared and held me in her arms whilst in the garden. I was 2 yrs and 10months old.

I remember making jam tarts in infant school . I was 4. Before that I have two memories in my grandmothers garden when I as smaller. One is eating an icecream and the dog jumped up at me and knocked the icecream out of the cornet onto the floor, I remember crying because having an icecream was a rare treat. The other memory is of my uncle strangling one of the hens for my auntie to pluck it for tea. My father was there and I remember him shouting at my uncle ( his brother) because he did it in front of me and I was traumatised.

I remember my Dad seeing me across the road to get his paper. I must have only been two. At that time I also remember my sister, who was two year older than me , feeding me a sandwich made of pepper and mustard! Don’t think she liked me much.

I remember being in my big Silver Cross pram outside a shop on our High Street (Mum had left me outside - as was usual then - and was inside buying something) and hearing an awful noise that frightened me very much. I looked over the road and saw a man in full Highland dress, playing the bagpipes - and screamed my head off ?
I know that I was under two, because just before my second birthday, Mum had left me outside a wool shop and heard a commotion - running out, she found that I'd bounced so hard that I'd managed to turn the whole pram over..! ? That was the end of the pram and the start of the pushchair..!! ?

threexnanny Sun 21-Jan-18 13:43:05

I think I can remember being in my pram and the family cat jumped up to join me till mum found her and I was draped in net afterwards. Definately can remember standing up in my cot and looking across my parents bed to the open door - about 2 I think. Next was getting the measles and listening to Children's Hour on the radio aged about 3.
Then there was my grandmother moving in with us when I was 4. I was fascinated by all her stuff and kept getting in the way.
I can also remember toddling out to the garden and pulling the heads off a lot of flowers because they were pretty!

I remember my Dad lifting me up to the window of the nursing home to see my new baby brother in the nursery. The nursery had about 12 cream cane Moses baskets. I also remember the nurse who had a flowing white head dress handing him to my Mum who was in the front seat. I remember the position of the pram in our back garden but I was too small to see into the pram. I was 3.5 at the time

pollyperkins Sun 21-Jan-18 14:04:29

Elrel I havent read the whole thread but had to put straightaway that the Mary Mouse books were a great favourite with me. The books also featured mummy Doll, Sailor doll (her husband ) and their 3 children Melia Pip and Roundy. I think MM had a husband and baby mice too. I remember some of the stories. I think they were by Enid Blyton. There was usually a moral at the end of the story!

80sMumIsaGranny Sun 21-Jan-18 14:12:14

I remember visiting our new house while it was still being built and getting upset about there being nowhere for me to sit down. My dad made me a little seat out two bricks and a plank of wood resting on top! I was two.
