Your bug,Maw sounds just like the one I had which has now gone. Coughing was bad enough but the headache was brutal. Vicks on my chest and use of an inhaler when necessary enabled me to sleep it off. Not so great was following it up with toothache but that's another story.

Ann please listen to every word that Maw said. We are all aware how wearing it is for you looking after H at home.

Maw the problem with this lurgy is the length of time it lingers. I have had one off and on since mid December. I think I am better and then I waken during the night coughing so much I and frightening Tara so that she runs.

I have the clock working on my new oven- backwards! I think I need a degree in engineering to master the simple things such as switching it on!

When my mum lived at home (PD plus regular falls) I used to heave a sigh of relief whenever she was taken into hospital for a week or two as it meant my poor Dad could at least get a night’s sleep instead of having to listen out for things going bump in the night.
Maybe not a thing to say, but their GP shared with me that caring for Mum would “kill my Dad” who at over 80 already had his own health issues such as Angina, dizziness and fluid retention.
Ann get some sleep. There is nothing you can do while Mr 60 is in good hands. And don’t let them discharge him without a full assessment. Harsh? But true.

Maw hope you feel better soon. Ann so sorry to hear how your H was today, you have my sympathy. I remember my mum being in hospital when she had dementia and how quickly things seemed to change for her.
Cornergran we had some furniture delivered from Oakf........land a few weeks ago and it arrived on the dot of 7am, I was still in my pyjamas and dressing gown !!
N&G looks like you had a lovely day with Laura. I went with DD1 and DGD' 1 and 2 to an ice cream parlour after school today, we had waffles and pancakes with all the toppings. Went down very well .
I'm off home tomorrow after a few days in the Midlands. My youngest DGD, age 2, is almost joined at the hip with me when I come to stay. I will miss them all but I'm back here again at the end of March.
I have the lurgy but trying not to let it get me down . Will be glad when I am home after quite a long train journey. Train to London, tube across London then train out to the Essex coast.

ann so sorry to hear about you DH. Unfortunately incontinence is a common occurrence for Alzheimer's patients in hospital. The hospital staff don't have the capacity to take patients to the toilet and they find it easier just to stick the patient in incontinence pads. The confusion is no doubt due to the UTI and you may find your DH becomes continent again when his UTI clears up. I agree with others, now is the time to consider a home for your DH. There will come a point when, however hard you try, you will not be able to cope at home. That time could be now. Please think about it. You must consider your own health too. My DB was in an excellent home. They took such good care of him and made him very comfortable.

Ann I hope when the antibiotics do their work, your DH will be more lucid and stable. What an awful day you must have had. You have both been in my thoughts since I read your post this morning. Do keep letting us know how things are with you both ?.

Gq that looks like the sort of country that appeals to me, but the weather is not benign enough for walking such terrain at the moment. It reminds me of the area around the Kinder Plateau.

I have had a quiet day today. A trip to the library and some cooking but have felt rather out of sorts. We didn’t even have a school run today because daddy was at home. I have finished my antibiotics so hopefully the three days will be enough to clear whatever it is that has been ailing me. DH has been topping out a tree in the garden; one I didn’t particularly want him to go to town on because the birds like it, but I can see the logic in it, so haven’t made my usual fuss! No doubt it will grow back - everything seems to.

It must have been upsetting to see your husband so unwell ann, he may well improve quickly once the antibiotics begin to work, I hope so. Having said that I can only but agree with maw it’s important to take this time to rest as much as you can. Lots of pressures on you.

You do sound proper poorly maw, stay resting as much as you can, if it’s flu you have then it will take it’s own time and of course you wouldn’t be able to care for anyone else, no one could. I remember you saying you have good neighbours and friends, please let someone know if you need anything.

That’s a very handsome fox , soop, the one who sleeps under a bush at the front of our home is much scruffier. Boast away tomorrow, it’s an understandable urge.

Looks a lovely bright day n&g, this grandparent lark is exhausting sometimes, we wouldn’t miss these days though, would we? Had two of ours today. We went off to a museum, they loved it but why oh why can’t they walk in a straight line? I’m sure we walked five times the distance we needed to, or that’s what my feet think .

I’m seriously envious of your robin encounter tegan, sounds magical. We rarely see one in our garden, mostly field sparrows and blackbirds along with what feels like a million starlings.

Feet elevating time now, we plan to enjoy a quiet evening. Furniture delivery due tomorrow, apparently between 7am and 1pm. Please tell me they don’t mean it could be 7am?

Maw - it's not surprising you feel exhausted after all the years of caring for your husband. It's the time of year as well - in earlier times we might even have been semi-hibernating.
As for taking tablets - I'm not a great believer in homeopathy, but my doctor suggested coffea cruda when I asked him about my sleep problems during our house move. (Getting worse daily - another 2 weeks to go.)
I've found it does seem to disconnect my mind from worrying thoughts, if not used too often. Though it doesn't always make me sleep.

Annsixty this recent crisis may well move thingson for your DH as regards finding a suitable way forward. With a UTI the symptoms/effects should ease once the antibiotics kick in, but it may be that they feel he cannot live at home because it is too much for you.
Might be the time to have some honest conversations with the family, but also, as I said before, this is an opportunity to get some rest and respite for yourself.
I hope nobody will take this amiss but I am so relieved not to be looking after Paw feeling as I do. I can barely stagger down stairs to make myself a herbal tea, no way could I have got up for him in the night or helped with dressing.
I can’t believe how weak I feel and as for the headache..... some Codis relieved it a bit this afternoon, but I don’t want to take codeine for more than one or max two days.
(Slept through some very nice skating curled up with Hattie.)

I've finished the watercolour of Felix the fox. I'm pleased with the result.

Tomorrow is care home visit with our friend who is recovering from hip surgery. Her husband will be counting the hours until she walks into his room. I shall entertain the ladies "upstairs". They will be treated to a viewing of Mila's photo. A greatnana boasting opportunity!

Evening all!

Busy day here! It’s very cold but we went to the zoo , then to the beach ( no swimming lol) .

Then we went to the planning meeting and made our protests. Now I have to contact all the councillors etc and rally the troops lol !

Hoped for an update from Ann , hope all is going well.

H is being admitted to a medical ward later today.
I went after lunch, I am not sure he knew me. He certainly wasn't overjoyed to see me.

He is incontinent, another new thing.
He fell asleep within 15 minutes of me getting there, so I came home and will go back later when he may have been moved.
