I think a mixture of new and old does look good. Our house is very much a mixture and sometimes I think we should get rid of most of it and start again with lovely modern stuff but I know that will ever happen as DH would fall over with shock at the waste of it all! I felt dreadful after my parents died and we had to let most of their stuff go to the house clearance. Obviously we retrieved anything of value but my mother had loved it all, worth something or worthless, it was hers and she kept it dusted and polished all her life. Now I'm making myself sad so I'll stop.

Nothing like a beautiful old piece of furniture that has a story to tell but not keen on clutter with no history so depends on space and whether next generation will be interested in it
