plastered!!

When I fractured my shoulder four months ago, I ordered two pairs of elastic-waisted trousers from Cotton Traders as it's not easy to pull up a zip one-handed. Although the shoulder has healed well, I'm still wearing the trousers which are very comfortable and don't look 'old lady-ish' as my extensive collection of tunics conceals the absence of zip.

I’ll 2nd or even 3rd one of those plastic sleeve thingies! I broke a bone in my right hand a couple of years ago, for me the world always seems a better place if I can still have a shower and wash my hair. My gd tells me I look like a chicken before I’ve been in the shower! I used a cheap shampoo with a conditioner in it as I had to squirt it straight onto my head rather than into my hand first.
Yes it does get easier as you go along, especially if you’re an independent sort normally. I could put earrings in and with persistence do up a clasp on a necklace. But good friends are a godsend too, one of mine lent me a coat with poppers, I could just about do them on my own but could not manage a zip or buttons with only my left hand. Hope your recovery is speedy and straight forward.

I feel for you. I've managed to break both my wrists during the last two years. One has mended well but the second broken wrist is still giving me problems 7 months on. Surgeon is now saying two of the screws are too long and may need removing which means another operation to look forward to!!
I think for me the hardest thing is that I have lost a lot of confidence and am constantly worried about tripping over again.

Cheer up - it may not be that bad. I found when I had a plaster on my broken right wrist that I did adapt and everyday tasks became easier.
I had no pain at all but was shocked to find it so weak when the plaster was removed. Be sure to do the prescribed exercises and with luck you'll be fit and capable before long.

My DGD had a cover for her cast when she broke her wrist and had no trouble with swimming, bathing and showering. I even saw her doing butterfly stroke!

You can buy a kind of sleeve with a large rubber disc at the top for putting over a plaster, I had one (borrowed it) to put over the plaster on my leg so I could have a shower. It was much better than a polythene bag.

I'm dreading my heating bill,usually I don't have the heating on during the day as I'm out with the dog or at the stables but being inactive I am feeling the cold,

This is going to be a very expensive break,,,
ready meals,livery,new clothes,taxis the list goes on and on

What about a heavy poncho style coat , you only have to get your head through the hole.

thanks for the advice ladies , a bit of internet shopping tonight.|The carrier bag and sellotape shower method only works if I have help.Biggest problem is being able to fasten a coat to go out...Keith dog and I are going stir crazy

When my sister-in-law broke her arm she got a plastic cover especially for keeping plasters dry from Amazon. She was able to swim with it on when we were on holiday.

Sloggi pull on bras were invaluable when I broke my shoulder. Bit awkward to put on, but definitely worth the effort and the cost.

Been there. Only difference, mine was left wrist. I have a DH, but he wasn't much help. I found showering and hair washing the most difficult. Trying to do it with one hand while keeping the plaster dry was a nightmare, and to make matters worse I am now afraid of snow and ice. I used to love it.
