Storms!

Glammanana and NannyTee, we frequently walk along the embankment from Harrison Drive to Leasowe but decided to give it a miss today. Yesterday was quite blowy and wet and for the last couple of days the water has been coming over the embankment, leaving shells to crunch through.

When I saw the video of The Mersey today, I was pleased that we hadn't given the walk a try today. It looked absolutely wild.

After three sleepless nights, being woken every half hour by DH's coughing fits, he was a lot better last night. Instead I was kept awake by the howling gale, and lay wondering if any of the trees 50 feet from our house would come down or shed large branches.

I was amazed to find this morning that in our highly treed village we seem to have nothing thicker than 2 inches and longer than six feet blown off in what seem at times to have been 60mph gusts.

I lay awake last night listening to the stormy weather and thinking about the two homeless men in the town; wondering/worrying if they were getting cold and wet. Thankfully when I met with them this morning they told me they had managed (with permission) to shelter under cover in a passageway at a local church and are able do so again tonight.

We had very heavy winds through the night, and when I opened the curtains, thought that the bin men had been. No, the plastic sacks were across the road and the contents of the bin were scattered in a neighbours garden. He was not amused. The bin men still haven't been.

Seems to have settled down now, but so many blasted twiggy branches to clear up, wooden garden chairs tipped over and a few plants blown clean out of pots!

I was amazed to not see any damage when it got light, it was beating into the back of the house and very noisy. It felt as if the windows were going to blow in at one time. I hate it when it's so strong. My son gave up trying to sleep at around half three and put his tv on, I woke about an hour later and just stayed there listening to it until I got up at 6ish.
I did manage to get some washing out for a good blow before the rain returned mid morning.

NannyTee Do you remember the last time we had flooding her when all the shops and restaurants where flooded hopefull it will not be that bad this time I bet the Managers of Morrisons & other shops are keeping their fingers crossed.

Yes it's bad here in Wirral. Crashing and banging all night and neighbours tree is bent in half right now. Looks like its coming through my window , eek.

High tide here at New Brighton all along the River Wall the River is high and the local car parks have been closed,but surprise surprise the authorities are having to steer people away from the River front with children to keep them out of danger.
Are these people totally stupid it takes just one gust of water and anyone would be pushed into the River putting their lives at risk and the lives of anyone attempting to rescue them.

Very wet and windy night. Few things bouncing round the garden but no damage, phew. Didn’t keep me awake as living in a bungalow reduces the noises. We have a very tired granddaughter here for the day who tells me the wind and rain kept her awake last night. A bit quieter now but there are coastal flood alerts in place and a lot of water came over the roads this morning.

Not aware of any storm. Skies are a bit cloudy but lots of bright blue too.
Haven't seen a single snowflake all winter.
Here in east central Scotland we have a comfortable micro climate sheltered by hills to the west and north and are far enough up the estuary to avoid the worst of anything the North Sea might chuck at us! No restrictions on bridges because of winds.
For those hit harder I hope any storm damage is quickly cleared up.

Pretty windy here, too in Central Europe. DH drove me to work as it would have been too dangerous on the bike. It's calmed down now and the sky is blue and bright, but the trees are still waving about quite a bit, and we tried to open the window just now to air the stuffy office, but everything blew away - even the walls were shaking.

Very stormy and windy here , (South-West) all night, wind kept me awake, battering against the windows, but not too much damage that I can see, yet.
I have feared high winds ever since the gales of 1987, and saw the damage they could wreak.

Quite windy in North Hampshire too. The conservatory roof leaked last night, how lucky are we that we had arranged to get it replaced and they arrived this morning as planned. Currently have no roof there but all in hand! Hope the storms don’t prove damaging for any of you.

Power cut just as we were going to bed. Good job DS1 and DD were here so we could use the light from their mobile phones as I was not prepared with torches and candles as usual.DGC not happy as they are not used to sleeping in total darkness. Good job it was a full moon for my trips to the bathroom.

Rained all night in Surrey with high winds, could hear it blowing all night. Dull and dry at the moment but still windy. DD2 said very windy in London when she was walking to work

Horrible night here in south Devon. Really scary wind.
And this morning when feeding the birds I noticed that a large fuschia had completely uprooted itself and blown across the garden. I've re-planted it, but don't fancy it's chances of surviving if this wind continues. I heard weird noises in the night, but have checked the roof and gutters and they seem intact.

Sea flood alerts for our area went out at 8.30 am
Sun is out and blustery winds at the moment. We had high winds and rain overnight but I've seen no reports of damage locally.

Hail and thunderstorm here in Midlands in the early hours. Windy now.

Me too Jalima! We had wild and very noisy winds all evening and well into the night with heavy rain banging against our west facing front bedroom window. Fortunately it is much calmer and dry now but does feel colder.

The storm was blowing in from the west so the rain was hitting the bedroom window with force - it kept me awake.

Next doors fence panel,blown on to one of our cars (again) DH has picked it up and moved it onto their front driveway. Storm kept me asleep, DH, DD and DGS slept through.

I know I shouldn't be , but I do sometimes get cross when I am wide awake and 'the others' are soundo, and in DH case gaining a gold medal for,snoring ?

The bins went over again in the night and there are lots of large twigs around the garden and on the road outside but everything seems intact (so far!).

I think the coast got hit quite badly as it was a high tide too with a super moon.
