Co-op 'divi' number

I don't remember the number but do remember sticking the receipts on the sheet. Have I got that right ?

I don’t remember that number, but I do remember my schoolfriends’ phone numbers going back to the 1940s. One of them only had three numbers after the name of the exchange, unusual even then. I liked it when the exchanges had names, some of them quite poetic.

Oh yes, I can remember it very well. I do have a lot of memory problems now sometimes , but I suppose what you learn in your formative years sticks with you...and I always was sent for the shopping at the co-op across the road. Her number was 34502 ...I will never use it as a password so I'm happy to write it here.

Yes, I do remember my number because it was palindromic and very easy to remember. Good idea to use it for a password although it would probably need something added to make it long enough. So hard to think of something memorable for passwords isn't it!

I'm another who can remember my mother's divi number. I can also remember the whole alphabet, numerically, from the days that I worked in the bank pre computerisation. But can I remember my own mobile number? Never.

The divi was substantial. It was claimed, I think, at set times. It was a day's wait, it seemed, in the queue. But worth the wait. When the divi ended and stamps were introduced, the value of the stamps were worth only half the divi would have been.

My Dad remembered his till the day he died. My Mum used to get cross with him (he was a bit stingy!) and say that he was an old skinflint always wanting his "divi". She made him promise not to use the co-op to bury her.

When that time came Dad picked a private funeral director but when they presented the bill they asked is he had a co-op number as it turns out they were affiliated to them - we all thought this was hilarious!

I remember both my mothers divi number and my husbands army number. They are used more now than ever before for my passwords, PIN numbers etc.

My mum never had a co-op number. I had one when I was a student, but I can't remember it now.
My passwords and pin numbers are from the 4 figure telephone numbers I had to learn as a child, our own, and 2 lots of grandparents. In those days you had to know the exchange too if it wasn't in the same town

Yes exactly KatyK - I think we all had our mum's numbers drilled into us on pain of death . I think it was printed out on the receipt so there was no getting away with it if you forgot!

Everyone in our family, of a certain age, remembers their mum's divi number! She used to send us to the Co-op for shopping and say 'don't you dare forget to give them the divi number'.

Military wives from the previous generation always remember their husbands pay no. Apparently every time they bought something from the NAAFI they had to quote that number.

My mom's Co-op number is engraved on my brain. I won't repeat it here because I might use it for a password in future (something which hadn't occurred to me before so thanks, Bathsheba, for planting the notion).
