I mean the big, bendy fish slice that I can use on non stick pans? I pan fried 5 salmon fillets yesterday and presentation suffered somewhat without my trusty friend - a silicone palette knife is not a good substitute!

Has something of yours mysteriously disappeared over the Christmas period?

My story of socks... when my children were small, I put all odd socks in a bag, on the theory that eventually the matching ones would mate.
When later we moved house, I sorted that bag, and about half of them did go together.
BUT - none of them fitted anyone any more!

Three years ago I crocheted two kitchen curtains for my daughter's very small kitchen windows which took me a long time to make. They had a very intricate grapevine pattern down the middle. They were complete, just waiting for me to get round to buying the brass curtain runners for them. When I bought them, I could no longer find the curtains and...three years later...am none the wiser! So sad and my daughter very disappointed.

Well, guess what? After posting about my missing CD with The Shepherds Farewell on it, today I found it amongst the small selection of cd's in my kitchen! I'm sure I've looked there 3 times at least. Anyway, today Shepherds it was before I put the cd safely (?!)away until next Christmas.

Has anyone seen my pinking shears?

Ever since I was about 25 I have kept a notebook where I list what is put away where. It started because I lived on the first floor of a block of flats and had a attic room for storage on the fifth floor. I still keep it up, so I don't have to empty every box etc in the attic to find things.

But I don't write down where I keep our passports, the housekeeping money or the spare key to the safe in it. I have hiding places for them that are committed to our memories, as there is no point in making it easy for a thief, is there?

The mysterious agency that moves or borrows things is well known here too. In Denmark, they are believed to be a species of the "wee folk" who play these tricks so that we remember to give them a helping of pudding on Christmas Eve.

The notorious safe place is also a feature of our home - it appears and disappears regularly, rather like Hogwart's Room of Requirement.

OK, soo, before Christmas I used the decorative plate which stand on the side table in the dining room to put a Christmas decoration on and put it's stand away somewhere safe. Anyone seen it?

My DH gently teases me about my one-legged lover! It must be the reason there are so many odd socks......

Thanks to kittylester for this thread and all the other posters for a great laugh. I now realise that I am not alone in losing things and mine isn't the only house where cutlery transforms itself. I would love to form a plastic box swapping group but I have a feeling we would spend all day trying to match bottoms to tops and still come out with a load of odd ones.

applegran I found your post very interesting, thank you, on reflection I realise I've not been searching for lost mojo in the right way, if indeed at all, I do have a lazy gene and sometimes a tendency to pessimism, so am going to look at things in a different way, I shall find missing mojo myself, it's not going to come back on it's own accord, it needs some help. Tip from wonderful sil, when I put something in safe place, take pic on phone as to where it is, sounds a good idea...... smile

I noticed that my teaspoons were going missing. I eventually discovered that when I told my two year old grandson to put the empty yogurt carton in the bin he was also putting the spoon in as well. Mystery solved!

Liz46 Thu 04-Jan-18 07:44:19

I've lost my hot water bottle and also a pair of reading glasses. I'm used to be quite organised so can't understand it. I found the Christmas present that I bought for my granddaughter 2016 in time for Christmas 2017!

I've lost a teaspoon but that was all.

Nannytee! I was just about to say I bet your foil is in the carboot! I often mislay stuff and find it in the carboot , fallen out of the shopping bags.
Ive lost my best pair of dressmaking scissors which only I am allowed to touch. Ive searched everywhere.
This thread reminds me of many years ago a teaching colleague was puzzled one lunchtime because her plastic lunch box with sandwiches had disappeared. 6 months later I got out a bag of fabric she had given to me to make pyjamas for my boys and inside was a lunch box with extremely mouldy sandwiches!

DD hid away the cards she didn’t want to take on hols, loyalty, NT etc., thinking she’d remember where. Couldn’t find them for months after. Finally found them in glove compartment of car.

Dana6789 Wed 03-Jan-18 18:33:25

My memory is not always that good, so... when I need to hide presents that I have bought early, I now take a photo on my phone of it in its hiding place.

I still spend hours searching for random things like my retro Tupperware egg separator though!

Haven’t lost anything that I know of, but found a jumper for my daughter at the back of the wardrobe this morning, better late then never I suppose

And I'm glad we're not the only ones with missing Mojos. We lost our get-up-and-go months ago and can't find them anywhere - DS did think he saw them running away together around 6 months ago, but can't be certain. At the moment Amazon and e-Bay both appear to be out of stock of Mojos, GU&Gs, and brain cells. Any idea where we can replace them with cheap temporary substitutes till we find the originals?

Skweek1 Wed 03-Jan-18 16:59:41

Yes - of course, as usual all my fault. Xmas morning when ready to dish up, DH couldn't find the meat lifting spikes. Fortunately MIL had a pair that she was prepared to go home for (happily only about a 10 minute drive, but thank goodness she hadn't started on the wine and spirits!) As soon as Xmas Day was over, there they were, lying on the utility room floor laughing at us. Goodness knows how they got there!

JanT8 Wed 03-Jan-18 16:33:13

Not lost, but I bought two boxes of crackers in the sales, ready for next Christmas. I did text my daughter to tell her where I’d put them. . . . . . Next Christmas is a long way off, by which time my grey matter will have shrunk even more!

marionk Wed 03-Jan-18 16:30:06

My sports bra!! Now who would want that?

nanaK54 Wed 03-Jan-18 16:19:39

Please could everyone have a look for my 'best' black leather gloves

NfkDumpling Wed 03-Jan-18 16:13:18

Just before Christmas I found the birthday card I bought for DH - in my knicker drawer. His birthday was last March. “Oh, great” I thought “It’ll be perfect for 2018”. The trouble is I can’t for the life of me remember where I put it. It’s not in the knicker drawer.

Yes, I misplaced my microwave cover for 3 days...was about to buy a new one as I thought I'd thrown it out by mistake, ... lo and it mysteriously turned up in the laundry cupboard! Never thought much about it until it went missing! Glad its back!
