A few s years ago I found left over sprouts ( that I didn’t know were lost) in the hostess trolley. Yes, I did follow my nose !
Someone needs to go back to Junior School himself.
I mean the big, bendy fish slice that I can use on non stick pans? I pan fried 5 salmon fillets yesterday and presentation suffered somewhat without my trusty friend - a silicone palette knife is not a good substitute!
Has something of yours mysteriously disappeared over the Christmas period?
A few s years ago I found left over sprouts ( that I didn’t know were lost) in the hostess trolley. Yes, I did follow my nose !
I lost 2 potato peelers ' last year' the last one went missing Xmas eve.
I say 'I' but I know who it was!.
Naturally any allegation of blame get's the reaction "Well peel the b---y spuds yourself "
I also could not find for the love of me 2 lovely candles I had bought for the neighbours for Xmas , searched high and low. All was revealed when 'He who keeps throwing spud peelers out with the peel and watched me diving in and out of cupboards looking for the candles ' eventually said " Were they fancy gold and cream things"? "Yes". " " Oh sorry, I remember using them in the shed when the the florescent light went bang".
I know where all these missing items are. They are in a Safe Place. Please look in your safe place for a tea cosy made to look like a Christmas pudding because, inexplicably, it wasn't in my safe place when I went to use it.
POGS
men,hey?
Springy I know what you mean, haha, that safe place, if only we could find it! It’s like the fabled El Dorado.
A decanter that I was certain was in the garage, for one really lovely bottle of red my husband wanted to treat properly. Found a crappy one where the wine went in all sorts of nooks and crannies so used that but washing it out was really hard, thankfully I got to the drowned tiny spider that rose to the top before my husband saw it!! I drank white. Found proper decanter next day.
POGS My beloved potato peeler (yes, sad I know) which I had carefully brought home with me all the way from Finland and had had for about 20 years disappeared about 2 years ago. I know who it was who threw it out with the peelings but no-one would admit it; it must have gone into the food recycling and I just hope the worms didn't choke on it.
Bought a very attractive artificial wreath last year to save buying/ making one this year. My door was wreathless this Christmas. The wreath is probably in the safe place.
What, Joseph, Balthazar's eye and Santa's great-great-grandad's nether regions are going to be in a Safe Place? Lord only knows where that could be.
I'm suspecting we have Borrowers.
I think some of the cutlery gets scooped into the bin by overkeen dish washers. This year I have lost my phone cover and my dil lost my doorkeys on a short walk. Also found my new packs of wrapping paper and cards that he tidied away last year.
Reading this thread prompted me to ask about a bottle of perfume DH bought for me at the beginning of October. We had been in Jo Malone and he said he would get me my favourite. Anniversary came and went, Christmas is over so yesterday I asked if perhaps I may have it as the other bottle is getting low. DH's face spoke volumes, he had put it away and forgotten where.
oh we def have a Bermuda triangle here only me and hubby but he swears blind its always my fault things go missing!
I too have sometimes lost my mojo - and felt very bad indeed, and very low energy. I found that, to rediscover my mojo, I needed to pay attention to what I was thinking, quietly, behind my other obvious thoughts. And then ask if these thoughts were really true - was I really no good at xyz, was I not likeable enough to bother people with talking about my worries, did I have energy to take on new things, and would it really be a disaster if I tried something and failed? It turned out that failing at e.g. water colours (I produced some really awful pictures) didn't matter - it didn't mean I was my very self a failure, and I enjoyed painting anyway. I could go for walks - that helped too. I could stop trying to hide from life and I could talk to people, and I re-discovered my mojo. I think Kipling wrote something like this, about feeling very down:
"When you get the hump, the Cornelius Hump,
The hump that is black and blue
Don't sit in the corner and read a book
Don't sit by the fire and stew
But go in the garden and dig and dig
And dig and dig till you are through"
You don't have to be a gardener - though I think that helps too. I found just that paying attention to my thoughts and behaviour, and then behaving and thinking in different healthier happier ways, changed my world.
I lost my top teeth, I took my top plate out put them down and then got distracted. Then I needed to go out and couldn’t for the life of me find them, so went out to the shops looking like a mugger with my face nearly covered up. Got home and walked into the sitting room and what was smiling at me from the mantelpiece..you guesses it my teeth.
Tea spoons disappear in our house, if I’m lucky I sometimes rescue them from the food waste recycling bin, my OH says it’s definitely not his fault, but there are only two of us here and it’s not me , nuf said, ?
I used to have a special manky old knife which wasn't very good for cutting anymore which I used to appropriate for other things like peeling off shrink wrapping, sticky stuff, helping to get lids of, etc.
Can I find it anywhere? No. Nothing else in the drawer is quite the same.
I have a very ancient bone-handled knife which has a long family history - it's battered but still good for all kinds of uses. I have found it in the dishwasher
, on the garden wall and even in the compost heap before now.
Now the dollars that DH carefully saved after a trip he and DD did 11 years ago and which he proudly showed me after we had booked our cruise to dollar regions have gone to the safe place. We leave next week. Frantic drawer pullin g out going on upstairs. Still they are increasing in value after Brexit. Always a bright side!
Lost a bag of shopping today! Salmon and two lots of sun cream!! Looked everywhere then decided to call supermarket! Yes they had it logged in their "left in trolley book" . So collecting tommorow. Feel so stupid!!
When I came to set the table for Christmas dinner 3 of my silver chargers were missing. I last used them at a party.... will be checking people as they leave in future ?
For some years I kept a carrier bag of "wild" presents at the bottom of a wardrobe in the spare room. It has been gone many months now and I can't think where or how it can have disappeared! No-one would nick it. Have now started a new bag.
Boxing Day I managed to lose the posh plug to the kitchen sink, no cheap replacements for it either... I’d done the veg the day before, so it can’t have gone out with the peelings, but I think it must have been binned somehow, because it isn’t here now!
I gave up on buying presents throughout the year because I couldn't remember where they were. My cousin, all smug, said I should do what she does and put them in a box marked "Presents"...... this year she couldn't find it. As she lives in Montreal she couldn't see my quiet little smile.
Re the disappearing teaspoons, I seem to remember something about every time you lose one you should check your wardrobe, because they metamorphose into wire coat hangers (and of course no-one ever actually buys those).
I still have a scarf (touch wood) that I have left three times and lost - and people have sent or given it back!
I hope that isn't Famous Last Words....
Farmor15 are you a Danish Granny? I'm a Farmor too and DH a Farfar. Just love it!
the remote for my Sky television in the bedroom been missing for days - eventually found it this morning down the side of the bed (not my side!!).
