New Years Habits.

Don't you ever diarise on your mobile? You can organise it to notify you with a tune, an hour, day, week or month before the event and it can remind you as frequently as you prefer. Much handier than a diary although to be fair, many of my friends seem to prefer diaries. I prefer to use my phone.

The DH and I have cleaned the house, put Christmas back up the loft and sorted out clothes and other items for the charity shop. The sun has just come out and I feel a bit chirpier about 2018 than I did.

That reminds me. I want one of those s/s containers with several sections that you put Indian spices in. Being a vegetarian but not liking nut roasts etc, I thought I'd try my hand at some veggie Indian cuisine as I like hot spicy food. So out will go the contents of my spice drawer and in with a new pestle and mortar and tin of spices. Here's to a spicy New Year

Like many others, I put the new calendar up after writing in all the birthdays, meetings, term and holiday dates on it. Also, as I am church treasurer and our financial year ends 31st Dec, I get the accounts up-to-date for archiving and print out the end-of-year bank and building society balances for the books. Thank heavens for online banking!

I take down all the Christmas decorations. (I've just done it) I also start filling out my new diary with all the birthdays etc., I love doing this. It makes everything feel organised.

I always update my calendar & diary, transferring Birthdays & putting on Appointments for 2018. Nothing else is ever planned for New Year's Day.

Decorations will come down slowly this week.

Must put re-cycling out today ready for collection tomorrow.

May go through filing boxes & shred anything I don't need to keep sometime this month

Urmstongran Thanks for that I shall go into Waterstones next time I am in Liverpool it sounds just what I need specially with the addition of two new babies this coming year.

No special New Year tasks, but I love putting up new calendars, and throw away the old ones, although sometimes I just cant throw away some of them, I have quite a collection!

But, that's why I do it, minxie because they are not so strong........
and because St Delia said it was a good idea. Doesn't seem any point using flavourless seasoning.

And it pleases me!

Yep, I can feel the springclean urge coming on. I usually start on the garden but, having ended up in A&E on 2 separate New Year's Days thanks once to a deep splinter and the other to a dead bramble in the eye, I am pleased it is raining!

I watched a documentary a while ago that tested herbs and spices Years out of date. They proved to be less strong than when first purchased but still alright to use as there was nothing wrong with them. The industry works well in getting us to spend unnecessary money

I suppose the only regular New Year habit I have is ...... nothing! In recent years I have taken the decorations down on NYD, as my wonderful, benevolent Santa Claus of a husband turns into the Grinch and just wants everything back to normal.

Done my herbs and spices and washed the shelf! Sorted!

I sorted out some food cupboards today and threw out a few things. But that was more in preparation for the dreaded housemove.
Then I went into husband's workshop - but it looks as if he has sorted a few things ready to take to the 'tip'.
Also reminder to myself that it's the final date for his UK tax online at the end of Jan. I haven't told him yet.

It must be catching - DH has streamlined his wardrobe today

My vehicle mot, service and insurance all due this month
Remind myself of this by sticking a large notice on my fridge door of must do's or else?????

Mmm, I suspect I could sort out my paperwork, notice that I didn't write would. It there's one thing I have learned - don't put off today what you may feel too poorly to do tomorrow.

hIlda - I didn't actually say today! Just ' new year'

I put receipted bills, tax papers and the like into an envelope or plastic bag on Hogmanay and label them with the year, then they go into a box in the attic, and the oldest lot from there goes out, carefully shredded.

Deleted junk filters etc. in my e-mail yesterday too.
Shall check the direct debit tomorrow as the 2nd is the first day banks are open again.

I always have to go round the house and make sure all the bins are emptied just before midnight!

It's a holiday, so New Year's Day for me, is for cooking a celebration dinner and relaxing. Plenty of time to do a purge on the cupboards later!

Hi glammanana I used to do same with birthday reminders & it was a bit of a chore until I found a ‘birthday calendar’ in my local bookshop. No days just dates on each month so that you can enter all the birthdays & keep adding to it over time. You just keep it for reference. I look up all the birthdays for the coming month & buy my cards in a batch. Never fails!

I do have the family for lunch on New Year's Day. I go the them for Christmas Dinner. It's all part of the celebrations.

I do the cupboard clear out also as there is lots of leftovers from Christmas so may as well make a good job of it,my next job will be to write all the birthdays on the new kitchen organiser so no one gets left out I have a terrible job remembering birthdays etc.

If I started actually organising putting anything into any sort of order, my family would probably think it was time to have me certified! Any room ‘in awe’ for me, corner?
