That hat

What did other people think of Meghan's hat? Not keen myself.

Smithy Thu 28-Dec-17 09:32:34

I hope that's the last of the criticism of Meghan's outfit. I'm not a fan of the royals but for God's sake leave her alone, you think she'd turned up in a parka and bobble hat, she looked lovely!

I didn't like Meghans' coat nor her hat and her boots were all wrinkled , they were suede but they're not supposed to look like as if they're falling down . I'm not criticising Meghan personally, just her choice of outfit but either her advisers got it wrong or she herself did...whereas Kate who believe me I'm not a great fan of usually, looked beautiful, and probably the sweetest and most relaxed she's looked in years.. her coat was beautiful and you wouldn't have guessed she was pregnant either. I also noticed that Harry looked a lot less smart than he usually does compared to his brother .. grey coat which hung badly on him, blue trousers, usually he and his brother wear very similar clothing, very smart to the Christmas service, I just wonder if perhaps Meghan has persuaded Harry to use the fashion house or designer she uses, if so I think it could be a mistake.

However I'm only giving my own personal thoughts about this.. ...at the end of the day who really cares about what they wear?..everyone used to slate fergie's dress sense when she appeared on the scene , but in the beginning she was like a breath of fresh air in her 50's style frocks compared to Dianas Haute couture .. so who knows, let them be them I say.. whatever they want to wear as long as they're decent people... it matter not a great deal what they wear

Kate looks like the old relaxed kate in this great picture...

She did all right, despite her confidence as an actress must have been nerve wracking for her. I think she'll give Kate a run for her money as she's much more natural and engaging it seems.

Loved the hat and the colour. At 67 I still love fashion.

Anniebach Wed 27-Dec-17 21:06:26

On Today this morning a plonker of an interviewer asked Harry Christmas went for Megan, was he going to say - she was bored out of her mind and next year want to spend it in a warmer country

"Frankly my dear I don't give a damn"

Jalima1108 Wed 27-Dec-17 19:49:05

She is nothing like Fergie
grin

phantom12 Wed 27-Dec-17 19:46:22

I didn't like her outfit at all. Kate and Meghan seem like Diana and Fergie all over again at the moment with Diana (Kate) getting it right and Fergie ( Meghan) looking as if her clothes should be less fussy. The same goes for Beatrice and Eugenie, they could wear simpler more elegant styles.

Jalima1108 Wed 27-Dec-17 19:24:09

Looking at the hat, I didn't think it looked very ginger (like Harry's hair), I thought it was more of a camel or tan shade
I suggested 'caramel'

No, not the same as Harry's hair, but perhaps in the same tonal range?

Carolpaint Wed 27-Dec-17 19:21:27

Stunningly beautiful, she looked gorgeous. She is an artist so this more avant garde hat was right for her. Can we cease some of this sniping or are us oldies becoming, was it Madam Lafarge, the knitter as the Aristocrats heads were chopped off?

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 27-Dec-17 19:18:27

Jalima I thought the same thing about the coat - sack of potatoes is a phrase I often use to describe how I would look! tchgrin

Grandmama Kate's coat cost £2600,Megan's £980. Kate's got a basic wardrobe suitable for public engagements, whereas Meghan is just starting to build one. I imagine Meghan has plenty in her existing wardrobe that will be used in future. She couldn't have looked much more neutral for her first appearance IMHO. Looking at the hat, I didn't think it looked very ginger (like Harry's hair), I thought it was more of a camel or tan shade.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Meghan marrys Harry because unlike Kate, she is a wealthy woman in her own right. Will she be able to be more free to choose her own clothes than Kate? Both prince's have been independently wealthy since the money they inherited from Diana when they reached age 30. Most of their expenses are paid for by the Duchy of Cornwall (i.e. Prince Charles). I know William 2nd in line to the Throne, but I wonder if Meghan and Harry will have more of a free hand with money.

Isn't it great that we don't all like the same fashions?

Otherwise we would be going round looking like clones.

123kitty Wed 27-Dec-17 18:11:13

So chic, so smart. If the hat had been red she would have been accused of drawing too much attention to herself (by some).

Jalima1108 Wed 27-Dec-17 17:22:12

I think that Philip Treacy, who designed the lovely/ugly hat (depending on your point of view grin) is a top British hat designer, world-renowned.

Anniebach Wed 27-Dec-17 17:17:59

Diana was a jolly fast learner though ?

Tiggersuki Wed 27-Dec-17 17:17:23

When I read the title of your comment I just knew it was about Meghan Markle's awfully ugly hat. I do agree with other people though, we shouldn't really care . BUT this was advertised as her first public engagement and she now must expect to be scrutinised and to be a walking advertisement as are other Royals. Personally I don't think she does herself any favours being so ridiculously thin but then many US actresses are, but she does have to accept she is now a British clothes horse. We have many excellent designers especially of hats so she need not look so dreadful.

Jalima1108 Wed 27-Dec-17 17:15:35

poor woman what is she letting herself in for
At least she is a young woman and not a girl like Diana was and has been used to the limelight, although in a different way.

Gemmag Wed 27-Dec-17 17:14:56

Very smart, whole outfit was very smart. Love the colours.

Lilylilo Wed 27-Dec-17 17:13:46

I didn't like it that much and the colour didn't suit her but at least she was wearing something a bit different and probably she's not used to wearing hats. I too think those wrap around coats swamp her but it's early days and she got every eye on her, poor woman what is she letting herself in for!

Jalima1108 Wed 27-Dec-17 17:11:38

Well, I liked it and the coat and boots and thought she looked lovely. Mind you, she would probably look lovely in most things - if I wore that coat and hat I would look like a sack of potatoes with a pimple on top.

I was going to post the same fluttERBY, about the colour (you beat me to it) - it toned in beautifully with Harry's hair.

dorsetpennt Wed 27-Dec-17 16:51:14

Didn't care for it . Maybe she isn't used to hats plenty of people never wear them. However, compared to the hats that the Princesses of York wore to Prince William's wedding , it's infinitely better.

fluttERBY123 Wed 27-Dec-17 16:49:25

Looked like a giant mushroom, alarming till you got used to it but at least it matched Harry's hair.

Blinko Wed 27-Dec-17 16:08:34

I thought she looked cheeky and playful when putting out the tip of her tongue. Hey ho.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 27-Dec-17 16:00:21

I thought she looked fantastic! tchgrin

Grandmama Wed 27-Dec-17 15:54:39

Kate and Megan looked lovely and very happy. But I think Kate's hemlines could be a bit lower and in these days of austerity and financial difficulties for some people I think the cost of their outfits (particularly Megan's) was way too high. They could rein in their expenditure a bit. One could look very chic for a much smaller amount.
