Can I take the decorations down now?

Well, christmas disappeared from my home yesterday! Nice and tidy again

In case anybody was wondering....

My tree cost me an arm and a leg this year so will not be coming down before it's necessary - my family are still here until the end of Jan anyway so the little ones like the trees. I am getting fed up of the cards falling off the door/walls though and may well take those down on Mon. It's my OH's birthday on 4th so we normally have them down before then anyway but being back at work on Tues I might have to leave them till the weekend. I always leave candles and little lights all over the place anyway to keep the cosy feel going.

Of course it's up to the individual, but I must say the long bus journey I had in the dark this evening was cheered up no end by the lights and trees that are still on display. It's nice that people leave their curtains open later while the decorations are up and it's welcoming to see the lights shining out as you get to your own front door as well. I'll miss them when they go next weekend.

We always have DD and family for lunch on New Years Day so we leave the tree etc up until after that. I'll probably take the tree amd decorations down on Tuesday as the cleaners are due on Wednesday. I do miss the twinkling lights though.

Took the tree down, the wreath off the door and any other Christmas decorations and packed them all away today. Thoroughly cleaned the house, fresh flowers in vases and I'm glad the house is back to normal!

Grandchildren just gone and I'm afraid all decs down now, tree dropping and no one else coming round who will see it so all back to normal now.

The twelve days of Christmas start on Christmas Day but if people put up decorations in November they think it’s all over on Boxing Day.
I used to wait for Twelfth Night but can’t wait to get back to normal now. I brought in my tree and put greenery along the mantle pieces just over a week ago and will clear up tomorrow.

Twelfth night for me. I love the old medieval Yuletide traditions? it is interesting to think that in times past the festivities and feasting went on for nearly an entire month? I don’t put the decorations up until Christmas Eve (just as we did when I was small and for my own children) I therefore want to enjoy them that bit longer, especially as for me Christmas is a season not just one day ??

6th January for me and it is my son's birthday so I always remember

Never before 1 January but as soon as possible after that date.

They stay up as long because they get put up a week earlier as if we do not buy our tree early in December, the choice is so limited. This year we had to buy a bigger (more expensive) tree and cut it down to size.

Teetime don't worry everyones different mine coming down today and like you flowers ...mine been up for 2 weeks no more visitors so down they come.not miserable just me.

Took my tree down last night, it did tend to take over the sitting room, but I’ve chucked a string of lights over the bookcases, and the ivy is still up from our Yuletide celebrations.

Twelfth night for me - I love the lights especially. But my house is liberally “decorated” with Lego, dolls pram and walker, Spider-Man pjs, books etc etc. Yes the grandchildren are here and it looks like a bomb site! So I’ll be glad to have a good tidy up (though not that they’ve gone home) and always do a January Spring clean and have hyacinths and fresh flowers in place of the Christmas things. But in answer to your question OP do exactly what suits you! Obviously! Doesn’t make you a grump at all.

I love the Spring time

I always used to take mine down the day before I went back to work in a school and have a good hoover through. This year the DGS, DS and DDIL are visiting on 1st Jan. Decorations will definitely be down the day after. Then I shall buy some daffs to remind me that spring is coming. Not grumpy as someone else said, just itching to tidy up properly.

I bought a willow tree . Stands about 5ft 6 . Everyone says I should leave it up all year as a lamp. I'm unsure.

The battery lights have run out of energy so will take them down tomorrow , OH has been thinking they were on fire , so one less trigger for him . Eldest has his birthday on the 4th Jan and we used to keep decorations up till then

For us the first four Sundays of Advent are traditionally a time of preparation and repentance so decorations don't go up until Christmas Eve. They stay up until 6th Jan when the feast of the three kings or wise men, is celebrated and their figures are moved close to the Christmas crib. This year it all ends with a lovely Epiphany Carol Service followed by a buffet

You do not have to go with tradition. This year despite the sparkling cheerful lights mine will be down in a day or two as we are decorating the lounge before we go on holiday. So not only do Christmas decorations have to go but all my ornaments, flower bulbs(7 pots worth to re-site), empty the 2 sideboards to be moved out.....etc etc.....oh for being minimalist which sadly I am not.
