Can I take the decorations down now?

We have an artificial olive tree in hall which has fairy lights on it all year round, not turned on in the Spring and Summer months, but very cheery in the Autumn and Winter.

Maybe Teetime's visitors have gone for this year or, maybe, she hasn't had any at all!!

Mine will be coming down soon. It'll be nice to have room to move!

Yes Teetime, you can take the decs down whenever you like. Its entirely up to you. Just enjoy your home and have it the way you want it.

I am glad that I didn't put up as many this year though. I was always sorry when it came to the taking down and packing away.

Ours will be up until 6th Jan ( then sadly packed away) they look so lovely, especially all the green garlands and lights,
But each to their own, as to duration.

Depends when they are installed maybe? Ours arrive at the beginning of December. By this week they start to look a bit dusty so gradually they are cleaned and packed away. Outside lights go on New Years Day. The trees and lights stay the longest. We have some battery lights that are in various items all year round to brighten dark corners. Each to their own I say.

Thankyou for the support. We havent had any visitors this year so it is just to suit DH and I. I shall proably take them down at the weekend as we arent expecting anyone then either. I shall then fill several vases with fresh flowers, restock the fridge with lovely fresh food buy some more wine, spring clean the house and look forward to spring.

In years gone by when I suffered PMT I would rip the decs down before twelfth night esp as children back to school by then so it felt wrong to have them up and I had had enough and wanted to feel normal again but now we have minimal decs to please the grandchildren so they will come down the day after their visit

They will come down on 2nd January here. Life is not the same now, it's a struggle since my beloved husband died a few years ago.

Teetime I'm not grumpy either however ours decs will be down soon.
I will leave some nice candles out.

But like you would love some fresh flowers although I do have a couple of white and pink (one of each) Amaryllis which are blooming quite splendidly at the moment.

I am looking forward to the scent of a lovely bowl or two of hyacinth

I'm just back from a walk in the dark with the dogs. I'm pleased to report that the majority of houses are still lit up brightly. I'm not criticising folks who get fed up with all the razzmatazz, the cooking cleaning tidying up dogs children relatives c* tv but - I'm so pleased not everyone feels like that.

we had a lovely day yesterday with our D and family she's just been told she can expect to be in a wheelchair by this time next year,we'll make sure the kids and she enjoy every minute of this christmas ,twinkly lights and tree may well stay up longer IF the kids want it to.She's coping remarkably well ..in public so anything that keeps a smile on her face will be the order of the day

If you go by the twelve days of Christmas, the 6th is the day to take them down .

Yes each to their own, I love the lights and sparkles and will take ours down on twelfth night. It will be easier to keep tidy when they are gone I admit.?

Grandson's birthday on 30th Sat, so Christmas tree will come down Sunday or BH Monday this coming weekend. I like to have it stored away and tidy for the start of the new working year. I only put a tree up, I'll admit to not being enthusiastic enough to put up anything else. I actually got it up early this year, on the 23rd, its been known to go up last thing Christmas Eve. Each to his own, I say, if you've had enough then take them down. Too many "rules" around Christmas, I think.

I am mystified why people put them up so early. No wonder the needles are falling off the tree.
In our house as a child it was not allowed before Christmas Eve and even now I do not put them up more than a few days before the 25th. They are then fresh and green and we are not tired of them before Christmas arrives. They then come down on 12th night.

Does anyone think that the central heating makes the needles drop?
