My DS and DIL split (her choice) earlier this year just 2 months after the birth of their first child. She said she wanted a "break from the relationship" and although this was completely out of the blue our DS had no choice but to leave. , She has been unpredicatable the whole time, sometimes letting DS see the baby, sometimes not. We kept out of it, and if she decided we could see the baby we did but we said nothing when she constantly let us down, when she accused us all of not caring, said that no-one supported her, that we were all rude, that we treated her badly etc etc (none of this is true). We just hoped she would either get the she obviously needs or come to realise how dreadful and unreasonable she was being. Our DS frequently arrives to see his baby at a designated time and place and she doesn't turn up, but whenever she clicks her fingers he runs as he loves his baby so so much and worries the whole time. He is a wreck. Anyway she promised that she would bring the baby to see us tomorrow, Christmas Eve, and said that our DS could stay overnight in her house so he could be with the baby on his first Christmas morning. Surprise surprise she has now cancelled it all. Our DS is devastated as are we. How is it right that the Mother has the automatic right to control everything? Our DS has no say. He has parental responsibility but that doesn't mean he has any rights. This Christmas is going to be awful for our DS and I'm dreading it.
I need advice for a mutually messy situation
